Hostage situation.

Today, half a year after the attacks on the WTC, we have our own attack here. A man just entered one of the greatest buildings in Amsterdam (our capital) with a machine gun, and a whole lot of explosives (i live next to this building).
He is probably schizofrenic, he is threatening to kill 4 hostages if all the people in the building don't paint phrases on the windows stating 'philies' and 'we mislead'. His anger is against Philips, who is forcing him to buy a wide-screen tv because there are those small black things on top and downside of the movies. (so he says)
We are watching, and fearing on how this might end. I just saw an AT (arrestation team, somewhat like SWAT) move towards the building, i hope they don't shoot him.

Wow, what crack head..it would be funny, but the crack head has a gun. And Crack heads and guns don't mix. Well, dunno what to say..I hope your AT takes him out..hopefully they'll be smart enough to use a sniper if he goes near a window. Just one to the head, he's as good as dead.

they are helt hostage since 9:30 AM, its now 16:30 AM... there are 6 people in the lobby, who are under the direct threat of being shot, and 300 in the whole building, unable to go down. He also has a bag full of explosives so hes able to destroy the building (so he says)...
He demands to be on television to say his thing about widescreen tv... :S

I certainly hope that people were joking in this thread when they said that they hoped he would be killed. Seriously, how cold can you get? <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->

One thing is killing people in games, that's just fun, but to wish for other people to get killed? Are we living in world that has become to used to accept killing on TV that we enjoy killing in the really world? (as long those who are killed are either 'freaks' or enemies?)

Ok, I don't want to sound like somebody giving a lesson or something, but I think that violence belongs in the gaming world, not the real world.

[EDIT] Jail him, fix him, just make sure he gets a chance with the psychologist.[/EDIT]

thats why i dont hope they shoot him. Give him the 5 minutes of television, he now has already spended 5 hours or so on tv.

i agree, but there was a tournament right after the attacks on WTC, and they called all clans not CT and T but 'team 1' and 'team 2'. This was a big official lan tournament. i dont think this should happen. If you feel like you dont want to play a CT - T game, then dont play CS.

Actually, I am for shooting him, if he IS as much of a threat to the hostages as he seems to be. It doesn't seem like this guy's demands will ever stop and it might be best just to snipe him before he starts executing hostages. The freak has explosives...If they take him out before he gets a chance to use them, or his gun, then they can stop massive building damage and loss of life. If they screw up, he could just blow the place, or start shooting hostages, even if his demands are met. He is not a stable person, and sometimes, as much as people hate it, the bad guys can't be jailed and have to be taken out before they can hurt someone.

Apparently Phillip's Customer Service sucks...afterall, they made this guy wacko.

I think it should be up to the SWAT cordinator [EDIT:Psycologist] if a person should be shot or not, and if he's a real danger to other people's lives. Killing (sniping) somebody should never be the default solution, as was almost suggested here.

It's always regretable when people take their own lives.
  • JedisarJedisar Join Date: 2002-03-03 Member: 264Awaiting Authorization
    Never the default..but sometimes..it's nessicary.

I'm actually glad it went down this way instead of the way it COULD have gone..I.e., the guy getting scared and shooting the people or detonating the explosives. Granted, maybe they could have helped him, but if they couldn't..it's a big risk..and you don't take risks when people's lives are at stake. Sometimes you have to pick the lesser evil.

While I regret that the man is dead and they couldn't handle this peacefully, this guy was apparently seriously disturbed and not afraid of death, and more than likely, was willing to kill.
  • KassingerKassinger Shades of grey Join Date: 2002-02-20 Member: 229Members, Constellation
That's up to the psycologists to decide, how dangerous he is...

He/she would know if this was in fact true:"While I regret that the man is dead and they couldn't handle this peacefully, this guy was apparently seriously disturbed and not afraid of death, and more than likely, was willing to kill."
  • JedisarJedisar Join Date: 2002-03-03 Member: 264Awaiting Authorization
If he has the potential to kill people, if he is able to kill them, if he is not of correct mind or moral, and if he cannot be pleased or talked down, then he is a threat.
