a tale of my stupidity
Around two hours ago the internet at my house went down (stupid summer storms), and unable to game, I went and got some food. When I returned, I assumed the internet was still out, and looked for something to do in the meantime. I went to the forums and started reading, passing time until the internet came back. I read random stuff on the forums here for nearly 2 hours, wanting the internet to come back so I could play ns. Only after this time did I realize how stupid I was, and that it must have came back sometime while I was eating.

It's all good. Everyone gets dumber when the internet is down.

I can't count the number of times I've gone to google looking for information on something when I knew full well that the internet was down.

I usually didn't make it all the way to hitting enter, but I usually started typing into the box before it hit me.

The Internet is down? Oh, just your copy of it.

EDIT: In other words, it's your connection to the Internet, not the entire Internet that is "down".

And I hate the following sentence.

That reminds me of the time when there was a blackout at our house, and I wanted to put on the radio in case there was news of it (in case it was widespread). So I went and got my walkman. Then I got the brilliant idea of plugging it in to the wall to save batteries, while my sister stared at me like I was some kind of idiot...

I did something like that... I was about ~9/10, the power went out for a couple of hours. I got bored of sitting around and doing nothing in my room, so i went to go play on the computer (Old Mac, had nothing on it, no games nothing) After getting bored of that i realized... Mac's need power to play, duh, back to the Playstation.

Bach when I was on Dialup, several years ago, I ended up browsing the internet offline, not knowing it was offline.

I used to play Dig-Dug when the internet was down. Now if it's down, I can't do anything... due to overheating.

Yes, I know. I'm a big nitpicker, though. I have several movie nitpick sites in my bookmark list. I have four books of nitpicks in movies. I'm irked when people confused "magazine" and "clip" (I blame the DOOM series for this continued confusion). I nitpick, and nitpick frequently.

That's why I have so many "Edited by" notices in my posts; I go back and edit many. Which is why I hate that "Edited by" notice so much. Make it time / new post based, so that immediate edits aren't noticed!

EDIT: Oh, and I too have several family members who walk into the room and declare "The Internet is down!". It gets old.

Bah, because I edited, I now have the dreaded following sentence, which I hate:

You think that's bad, my mom and dad used to say "Your Internet" to my brother and me.

I was like to hell with that, I am not and will never allow myself to be considered responsible for this mess.

"The Internet is down" is fine by me, because it means that some part of it is. Whether that part is your ISP or you as an endpoint doesn't matter.

Besides, this falls under the category of language overloading, which is fine in this instance because it's almost impossible for the literal meaning to be the intended one.

    MY INNERNETS ARE DOWN

I kinda go crazy without the internet. I do weird things like leave my room, talk to people I don't know that well, go out for drinks, actually do my homework (until I realize that I can't submit my projects on the web) . . . all kinds of things that are very uncharacteristic for me. This is a rare occurance, so I still spend the majority of my life in digital solitude.

    And thank God for that.

Summer storms are the sux (do you live in Fla.?). One of the damn hurricanes took my power and internet for 4-1/2 days last season (whichever one hit us Labor Day weekend).

My connection (well, my router, or something in the networky guts of this system I don't understand) went down a couple of weeks back, and my first instinct was to go to google for help fixing it. I felt so lost.

No it isn't, you nincompoop. It's still magazine in the UK.

And iirc, the magazine is the feeding mechanism that shifts bullets into the chamber. The only time you have a clip really is when you have a bundle of bullets helt together by, well, a clip (such as with a M1 Garand)... hmm, a picture would help:

     <--- this is a clip

Actually, I just stumbled across a great link while looking for pictures to illustrate this, which has a better explanation than I'd be able to write: http://www.thegunzone.com/clips-mags.html
