Recommend Me A Pc Action Game
<div class="IPBDescription">Please?</div>Requirements - Not FPS. It's okay if it uses FPS style controls but doesn't play much like an FPS (i.e. Jedi Knight II after lightsaber works fine because it's more hack & slash, but something like Max Payne is no good). I'm rediculously bored with all my FPS games x.x
So basically, if it's a quality action game that's NOT a shooter with standard FPS controls (i.e. Resident Evil 4), it should be good. My PC library primarily consists of FPS games and PC ports of console games, so odds are if you're thinking of a non-FPS game, I don't have it. As a matter of fact, the only 2 non-FPS action games I do recall having are Oni and Hevay Metal: FAKK2, so go wild :P
Also, I do have a 13 button gamepad with 2 analog sticks and a D-pad that acts as a POV hat, as well as a few joysticks, so it doesn't need to be a keyboard-friendly game.
Games I'm already thinking about:
PoP: Warrior Within
Jedi Knight II
And that's basically it x.x

That said, you can't go wrong with Freespace 2
Or Darwinia.
Also use this oppertunity to play games you usually wouldn't.
Play something like Freedom Force Vs The Third Reich or Evil Genius.
-EDIT2- You also can't go wrong with Cannon Fodder. If you can "aqquire" it somehow -EDIT2-
Deus Ex is another good one. Deus Ex 2 as well, to a lesser extent. Both are sort of futuristic, RPG/FPS mix, though you can theoretically go around without shooting anyone and especially the first game relies more on your in-game skills than on your dexterity with a mouse.
That's all I can think of right now.
*cough* the exclamation mark is part of the title; I'm not being aggressively interrogative <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Already have it for PS2 =X
Venmoch - I was initially thinking no RTS, though Freedom Forve vs. The Third Reich seems interesting. Darwinia seems interesting as well but I'm not sure if it's my type of game. EDIT: Guess I'll play the Darwinia demo
Status Quo - Die by the Sword looks neat. Downloading the demo. EDIT: Demo's pretty cool. Seems like a port of an old Playstation or Saturn game.
And I forgot all about Deus Ex; guess I'll get that demo as well
EDIT: Pirates!, eh? Seems like an RTS but Gamespot says it also has a lot of action... Guess I'll download that demo, too. EDIT II* Erp, seems DLX doesn't have that demo/there <i>is</i> no demo *
Good thing I got a 120 GB drive last weekend <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Bear in mind that it still uses the controls of a first person shooter, so if you want to get away from that... actually, don't bear that in mind, just play it. Yesterday.
Thief 3: Deady Shadows, kind of a 1st or 3rd person sneak and hack em up.
Other games I'm currently playing on the PC atm are
Rome Total War = civilization/RTS hybrid type gameplay
Silent Hunter 3 = WW2 U-boat sim, awsome graphics and nice scaleable difficulty level.
But it gets big props for having a Dev team of about 5.
Have you played Thief before? It's all about sneaking swiping and eavesdropping. I'd recommend Thief 1 to start with even though it is quite old, but it is a very good game still. Basically the gameplay is sneak about not making much noise, avoid guards/beasties by distracting them/knocking them out/shooting out lights/exploring/finding secrets and observing the world around you (eavesdropping, reading scrolls/books...the Thief world is quite rich in information). Oh, and stealing stuff <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

You can download the demos there.
Your edit lacks the text at the bottom that mentions you edited o.o

Agreed. Godspeed, Captain Jools. Godspeed.
6/28/04 NEVAR FORGET!(Oh god I wish we had that SA "Crying Eagle" emoticon)
It's got a weird little control scheme, but I reccomend you at least try it out once.
Freedom Force was fun for a while, especially with the mods.
I was really addicted to the demo way back in the day, i never had much money, so I never bought it.
If you want something with FPS controls, a decent story, and some cool graphics, go splinter cell. Most is 3rd person, and the effects in the new one (Chaos Theory) are amazing even with relitively little computing power.
I have yet to play the Theif demo but I've been hearing about it for some time.
The idea here is arcadey-type action a la Contra: Hard Corps or something similarly action-packed, though Deus Ex is really really cool. It's probably like, $5, too...
<a href='http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/offering/list/-/B00003OPES/all/ref=dp_pb_a/002-1362499-2510411?s=software' target='_blank'>Yup...</a>
Supposing it's as good as I've been hearing, doesn't look like <a href='http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/offering/list/-/B00001YVIB/all/ref=dp_pb_a/002-1362499-2510411?s=videogames' target='_blank'>Theif</a>'ll exactly break the bank either, so I'm still open to ideas.
So Theif and Deus Ex are officially done with :P
Games I'm currently still considering:
Die by the Sword
Freedom Force (seeing as how vs. The Third Reich is ~$40)
PoP: Warrior Within
<a href='http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-7s-70-2uf-4-6.html' target='_blank'>Guilty Gear X</a>
Or Beyond Good and Evil
Maybe Splinter Cell
But once you go through the game as a Silent Assassin, you sure as hell want to go back and kill people with the the armory you've unlocked. Minigun ftw.
Edit: Oh, and try Splinter Cell 3, San Andreas (just came out!), and Battlefield 2 (when it comes out!).
It's not an RTS. It's really hard to pin down the genre at all, actually - let's just say it's an adventure. You're a pirate - you sail the carribean, attacking ships, plundering booty, attacking ports, wooing wenches and (here's the action part) crossing swords with honest sailors and scurvy pilferers alike.
Although, as far as I know, it's probably not nearly as much pure "action" as you were thinking it's a good game anyway.

Cold Fear looks kinda like RE4, but since I already have RE4 I think I'll skip it for right now :P
The Alice demo felt like a mediocre game, but was an interesting re-imagining of Alice in Wonderland.
Btw, not to say that games of this type are inherentley bad, but please refrain from using a WWII-themed game unless you play as some sort of non-aligned badass ninja (i.e. Ryu Hayabusa). I currently own Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and Return to Castle Wolfenstien, which is more than enough WWII for me.
So right now, the considering list is such:<ul><li>Theif III (Really fun demo, I felt like Legato from Trigun whenever I snuck behind and killed someone (note I killed everyone in the castle). Cue Legato music and a crackly, evil laugh)</li><li>Deus Ex: Invisible War</li><li>Prince of Persia: Warrior Within</li><li>Die by the Sword</li></ul>
Please keep 'em coming!
(Btw, Venmoch, the Darwinia demo was cool, but RTS games aren't by bag. Definentley looked neat and had some cool bits to it, like the gesture recognition; really cool, but not my thing)

Am I seriously the only person in the world that not only didn't hate the gun levels, but thought they were pretty neat?
Edit: And play No One Lives Forever 2. One of the best games I've ever played - great humour, and core gameplay very similar to that of Deus Ex.
I borrowed it off a mate last week, finished it coupla days ago - not the best of endings, really, but its a damn great game all the way through. Having said I like the blasters, once you get the lightsaber you won't go back <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I also recomend <b>The Thing</b>. Thats probably my favourite single player game ever. Great fun having squads of marines following you around then suddenly turning into aliens or just generally not liking you and having a huge accidental fight during which the dude with the flamethrower kills EVERYBODY including you. You really have to play it to know what I mean. I suck at scary stuff, and while this isn't amazingly scary i found it was at the level where I really had problems stepping around each corner.
If you've seen either of the films/read the story, this is for you <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
<img src='http://img293.echo.cx/img293/1959/pirates20050309210206930nb.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Sword fighting! (which starts off insanely easy but gets progressively harder as your pirate ages and loses his agility)
<img src='http://img293.echo.cx/img293/7186/pirates20050309210125060zh.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Naval battles! (with battles which slowly fade into night-time as the battle wears on, with your men cheering when you land a hit on the enemy and screaming when you take a hit yourself)
<img src='http://img293.echo.cx/img293/6143/pirates20050309201754170xr.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Wooing! (with hawt governor's daughters and some which are.... less than hawt... but easier to woo!)
And finally (if this doesn't win you over I don't know what will.....)
<img src='http://img292.echo.cx/img292/5821/boobies7jq.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Boobies! Ahem, yes, I'm looking at your face, really. (no there is no actual nudity...)
The game goes for a sort of nice PC, *almost* cartoony feel, with the swordfights being actiony rather than realistic (kicking people through windows and banisters, sliding down bannisters Legolas-style e.t.c), and with defeated enemy crews being put ashore in lifeboats rather than brutally slaughtered.... but then quite honestly if I wanted mass slaughter i'd play Rome Total war. The game is short; you'll finish your first pirate's career in a weekend, but there's a lot of replayability in the ability to choose different time periods (which will in turn effect who owns which ports, and what ships are more easily available), difficulty settings and factions. And don't forget there's boobies.
