Watermap And Another Thing

Do you remember that I suggested that someone should make a flooded map? Has anyone picked up on that? In that case, hows it going?

Second, maybe you remember that I suggested a metal-grid with water underneath(like aliens) and with the metal grid broken up at some places? Ns_nancy has exactly what I was trying to explain, except no water.

    I am intending to make a small flooded section in my current map, ns_titan6 <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I once created a map for Duke Nukem 3D, called Titanic. I made loads of flooded sections, like the film where some under floors are completely flooded. It took **obscenity** ages thanks to Build's stupid system of putting underwater sections. In the level editor, you had to make it so when you jumped into water from the land environment, it would teleport you to an underwater environment. Ridiculous!

    Thankfully those days are long gone thanks to the Quake engine. When I first started level editing with Worldcraft, I couldn't believe how easy it was to put water in...

    Not ridiculous for its time, when it was probably the first 3D FPS game to actually HAVE underwater sections <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Also, that kind of room-over-room thing just wasn't possible in the Build engine. (Unless you include the funky 'multiple rooms occupying same space' feature.)

    Having said that, it was a bit of a **obscenity** to get to use for the most part.

    actually it was 2.5D Merk, not true 3D.

    2.5d has no real "Z" axis... which meant no "floating" blocks, and if you wanted it you'd have to make it a sprite or collection of them. though, you could make a dome but it was VERY time consuming and looked far too smymetical....

    my daily rant. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    oh, and my map will have 1 flooded area, to be sure. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
