Scripting is completely fine because there is no effective way to stop bad scripts while letting the good scripts go through.

I am completely ok with scripts as long as it doesn't exploit a bug (like leap energy). I think that blockscripts, if it was to remain, should only block the pistol script, as I think that it is the script giving the most distinct advantage a script could ever give.
I am strongly in favour of having +3jump scripts be allowed by BS, or even better, have an bult-in 3jump command in the game. It would make bhop more accessible to everyone (as in leveling the playing, what I think was the purpose of mp_blockscripts in the first place), instead of allowing one way to jump (mwheel) and prohibiting another (3jump).
On the subject of the mousewheel, I disagree with the idea of having the mousewheel blocked too, because it is an input like another and there shouldn't be rules saying what you can bind to what key and what you are not allowed to. This is taking the 'NS purism' too far.

This man speaks the truth!
Scripts will always be fine, bs_1 is a waste of time IMO.
I used to use 3jumps, but I taught myself to use mousewheel. I used to have a strange double lastinv setup that few other can play with but I was forced to alter it to be able to play on bs_1 servers. This infact led me to find a script that I find even easier to play with, hurrah for bs! <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I think the mp_blockscripts idea is fine, I just wish it was a bit smarter on what kind of scripts it blocks.
In an ideal, perfect world, gamers would compete and challenge each other on one single principle: skill. No one player would have anything better or worse than another other than the sole core root of his ability to play the game. Scripts are one such method that pollute an ideal world by making the game rely on other advantages other than skill. However, one must also realize that, along with scripts, there are many other things that do this. I.E. someone with a larger moniter or better graphics card will inherintly have an advantage over another player on a basis other than skill, thus this "ideal" gaming world is shattered by the variety of players' systems, lighting conditions, seating, temperature, sight, etc to infinity. This is why it is that scripts are an "evil", but a necessary or at least mediocre evil.
Basically a 22 inch moniter over a 14 inch moniter will give a player a larger advantage than any script ever will. A graphics card capable of pushing out 100 FPS over one that barely produces 15 FPS will give a player a larger advantage than any script ever will. My point: once we acknowledge that games now, and for many years to come, are not played on a perfectly fair battleground, then you will realize how scripts are just one of the many things that form the diversity of the battleground, and until said ground is completely evened out by some new technology (games via direct brain stimulation), scripts should be and will be as legitimate as any other advantage (software of physical).
Now that we have come to the conclusion that, given the circumstances under which games are played, scripts are fine, we must stick fast to this. It is impossible to draw a line where X scripts are okay but Y scripts are bad. Once you acknoweldge that a script is okay to use, all scripts should be okay to use. To clarify, I mean all scripts that function as legal input from the user, so exploitive scripts and/or hooks of course, are not inlcuded in this definition.
Thus if a fastswitch script is allowed, so is a bhop script, so is a pistol script, so is a blink script, and exetera. To say that a bhop is okay, but a pistol not, is to define an arbitrary, unfounded, and subjective line in which there exists no universal truth. In order for there to be a universal and general truth, it must follow strict logic statements and not be relyant on subjective beliefs. Thus IF one acknowledges that multiplayer games of now are inherinatly uneven, THEN scripts are okay. Likewise a logical statement that can be undeniable proven is best answered with a yes or no. Thus if you say YES to scripts, you must say YES to scripts in general, if you say no, you should say no to all scripts in general. If you say my bhop script is okay, but I don't like pistol scripts, well than thats a subjective personal truth and thus utterly useless in proving global, universal truths.
Thus, for the reasons I have outlined above, I believe scripts are a okay, be it pistol, bhop, fastswitch, etc.
hud_fastswitch 1 eh?
Really, even pistol scripts are fine, because, some people will just buy gamepads or other scriptable hardware to shoot the pistol. We DO NOT want this to be a "money" game.
General you can script as much as you want, i don't really care. It aint going to help you anyway.

That thread was (supposed to be) directed to scripting in leagues. This thread, being of a heated subject manner, might go one of two ways...
1. People will respect eachother and other peoples opinions,
or
2. Lock
Ill give you guys a chance to discuss and debate, but this particular subject tends to lead down the road of flames.

The stupidity train rides the other side of the track too, god knows all you hackers and your downloaded Bhop skill sure are lame.
I bet your hardheaded arseholeism sure has convinced alot of pubbers and developers that you are right.
