No, I'm the real PSO goon here. After all, I withstood Episode 3.

    PSO isn't WoW, idiot.

So we're all signing up for this, yes?

Somebody needs to remind me when it gets to be the 10th. I've been longing to play PSO, and I don't want to miss my chance.

It would also be a good idea for me to figure out how to plug a DC controller into my computer. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

edit: I'm having some trouble finding a page that tells me how to do this...
Anyone know a good site for connecting Video Game controllers to PC?
    Link me please?

Finally for PC. If there's a monthly fee I'm definitely refusing it. Guild Wars, despite how much I think it'll suck, is superior in many ways (even though I enjoyed PSO more), and it doesn't have a fee. Still, PSO for PC is cool, it's about time. And, 12 characters! Not that retarded one-per-VMU stuff.

    Still, can't wait to be HUcast again. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> (that's the robot one, right?)

    EDIT 2: I'll try the beta. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'm sure that the final version will have a monthly fee.

I hope there are more daft weapons like the Crazy Tune:

while you're entitled to your opinions surge, the only thing GW has going for it compared to PSO is it's age... it's new and so it gets to make use of fancy new ideas and technology. I don't expect GW will stand up at all to Phantasy Star Universe... but like I said about the comparison in your post, even that's only personal opinion ^~

To be honest I'd still rather play PSO than GW, even with the game showing it's age somewhat :p

I said I think Guild Wars will suck. I had more fun playing PSO than Guild Wars, but why would they charge a bloody monthly fee when it's years older than GW? It's more a question of logic.

On that note, I'm sure I'll enjoy the beta (because it won't have a fee).
  • GeminosityGeminosity :3 Join Date: 2003-09-08 Member: 20667Members
I'll agree with that at least... while they do produce some amazingly detailed and cool missions; the world is still static so I don't think those quests were worth the fee really.
Used to love it when PSO was free in the UK... we got PSO and PSOv2 with no fee whatsoever but they started finally charging our lil bobbing isle when they jumped consoles and went to epI&II plus III :/

They began hitting the US with monthly fees in v2 though hence the <a href='http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3?date=2001-06-01&res=l' target='_blank'>penny arcade comment</a> back while I was still enjoying a free game ^~

Yeah, I loved playing PSO for free for dreamcast.

So what about the open beta they had a year or so ago? The one I played in? It seemed pretty much ready to go live back then, aside from the lack of an English translation and the plan to charge a monthly fee for it.

And what the hell, gem... <i>Free</i> V2? You lucky bastards...

probably the lack of english translations ^~

To be honest you'd be surprised how many thing can break when you translate stuff... back when I was contracted to be an in-house tester, the title we were checking had fatal crashes because the french translation caused one of the text sections to go over the character limit which caused some funny memory stuff or something to that effect :3

<b>edit:</b> actually... now that I think about it... it's probably to test the server network for eu/us :p

Oh god yes, PSO for DC was pure effin sex. It's a good thing they started charging, or I'd strill be playing it like 6 to 8 hours a night every night. I still have 3 level 100s sitting on a VMU somewhere. I just wish I'd had friends who played it instead of just playing with random people, cuz then we could have made passworded servers after all the pubs went to pot.

PSO also taught me the evils of MMOs, in that they can destroy families and kill your muscle mass. I've learned well from my addiction to PSO, no more MMOs.

33 Quests? Did I misunderstand the website, or is there only 33 quests?

The Dreamcast and Gamecube versions had even fewer.

Most people just progress through the levels rather than take quests (which use the same levels but change the layouts and monsters around a bit).

It's really just fun to go through killing enemies, feeding your pet dude, leveling up, and finding new weapons.

It's really an awesome game... I really need to figure out how to plug a dreamcast or gamecube controller into my computer before May 10th.

Some of the weapons were pretty cool, but I wish a lot of them weren't unbalanced (I never found a use for the big damn sword or that throwing sword thing, they were slow and there were better weapons at the same level).

Still, I suppose lots of the weapons were really based on preference. I used the shotgun a bit just because I loved seeing my robot dude use a rediculously big gun.

I myself plan to go FO big-time.
  • GeminosityGeminosity :3 Join Date: 2003-09-08 Member: 20667Members
they weren't really unbalanced surge; the multi-hit weapons were a natural progression from the single-hitters.
Later you find single-hitters that easily outdamage the multis on single targets and due to the faster swing speed basically let you sorta choose what style you want :3

I'm not sure what I'll go... either my old fave the FOnewearl because they look the best or maybe a HUnewearl because they suit my playstyle. We'll have to see I guess :p
