Newbies delight.(long)
There I was, splash screen blaring it’s glow back at me, I’m watching the loading text grow. Finally, the consol closes and I am left in the ready room, alone, somewhat clueless. I look around, get a feel for movement, I notice a gate that says in green text “Marines”. I decide, since I am more accustom with guns them I am with flailing claws and teeth, to join the side with, of course, guns. I notice right away that the commander on my team is speaking, as well as most of my team, so I quickly gather up my mic and put it on.
I wander around a bit, shooting randomly to get used to the weapon, I cycle through them, I help build structures, learn their function, I finally decide it’s time to go stretch my legs, get a feel for the combat, learn what to shoot at, and about how many times I have to shoot it to kill it. I inch my way slowly down to horseshoe, checking my sides, not knowing which new turn will lead me where. I stop at horseshoe and notice a few turrets and a resource tower working away. I inspect them. I hear a scratching noise down the hallway and around a corner; I think it must be my teammates building something new.
Carelessly I bound around the corner expecting to be greeted by my team, instead, a massive thing stood there with its back to me. At the time, I had no idea what it was, just that I should shoot it. Later I discovered it was an Ons. It flipped around, charged after me, stupidly I kept shooting at it. It was growing closer and closer, very quickly, I decided it was time to run. I turn around and skip back off to where I knew I might be safe, at horseshoe, I quick-jumped around a corner and landed in the face of 5 team mates, with heavy armor, two grenade launchers and 3 HMG’s.
“There is a... Something over there” I manage to blurt out before the beast decided to round the corner.
A fury of gun fire opens up, the beast screams and eventually dies. My team mates tell me to follow them back to the base, as per the order of the commander. I do so. When I arrive I am equipped with a jetpack and a shotgun and told to take the lead as a new way point was set. (Mind you, I am an avid FPS player, so I automatically understand the fundamentals such as a jet pack and team work.)
I decided to test out the team work, see how it would work, and where better to try it then a team who seemed to work wonderfully together. On the way to the way point, I give out sudden field commands, such as which side of the wall someone should be on, or if the grenade launchers need to move up and sweep a new room. All 5 of these people listen to me as I scout ahead of them with my jetpack.
After raising two alien small bases on resource nodes we arrive at a hive. I’m bouncing around taking out small offensive chambers and what not, while my team clears the room of aliens and the hive it’s self. We take the room over, and construct an extremely well defended base there before teleporting back to the command center.
7 hours straight went by, through three different maps, all the while on the exact same team, leaving me with a wooed feeling inside of me. And the regret of knowing I wasn’t going to download this mod, because I thought nothing could be better then CS.
I commend you all, the creators of this masterpiece, wonderful job, I am truthfully impressed with this. I honestly thought it wasn’t possible. However, I am very proud to admit I was wrong.
Given, it is still brand new, a wee baby with a rushed server side and a slightly disgruntled player base. But do not worry about them, they are mostly made up of **obscenity** off teenagers and drunks, who find no other joy in life then to down what will be the next thing that game developers copycat. I say, give the game a good 5 months, and it will just become even better. As well as attract a player base that belittles DOD and threatens CS.
(though, I doubt it will ever exceed the player base of CS, I doubt any game will for the next 2 years or so… depending on when they release a HL2 demo, heh)

NS stills rocks, and is an amazing experience, but it's still very obviously a 1.0-series release.
I AM good at it, just rarely am I given the opportunity.
Glad you enjoy this, hope to see you ingame sometime
WOOOOO!!! I LOVE THIS MOD
Thank you. That is all.
I would like to thank penny arcade for showing me the best mod ever.
So there you go.
That teamwork is not suggested but REQUIRED to win.. makes the comradery that much more worth it. I know the guys i play with and they know me.. and we work flawlessly. Unlike other games where the n00b just wants to kill people and get a high K:D ratio....
Teamplay is what makes this mod stand out.... and will make it legendary in terms of HL mods.
some of the best times i can ever remember in games is in CS DOD and NS where i was on just that rarely good team, who works so well together. for excample, how many times have you seen people in CS actually playing the role of a CT. clearing each room one at a time, then proceeding from there with a plan. so beautiful.
Flayra.... I just hope you know.. that all kidding aside.. I think you have gone beyond any mod ever before. This game could and ... if they agree... could be marketed by itself!!!! honestly..... Its so diverse and the gameplay amazing... THE HL engine looks like it never has before with this.
All it needs now is a single player ...
I wish i could be on the team to devlop that for a later release .
<--- mapper and modder.
this concept you've given birth to will, i promiss, my copyed into the gamming market by someone. most likely, Tribes3 hehe.
even if it's not by you, you can still say "yeah, that's mmy idea" and maybe get roilitys from it, save the money, then take over the world and rule with an iron fist.... or maybe just be able to say it is your idea
on a side note, i do wish you didn't have to take all the complaints and bug reports. but i guess, you can't woo them all.
Oh, the posiblitys!
Jack crept down the mysterious hallway consumed by the flickering of broken lights and shadows that seemed to dance menacingly around him. Following the ever growing sound of the beep, emitted by a small personal locater on his left wrist. It was directing him towards an unknown life form.
His radio chimed in.
“Alpha command to sweep, report status” the commander buzzed inside his ear.
“Sweep, currently in south hallway, approaching primary LZ.” Jack replied.
“Proceed,” the commander paused observing his digital map of the abandoned space craft “Down the left cargo room into loading bay 2.”
“Negative, command, I’m picking up a faint signal on my PL, there may be survivors” Jack replied slowly as be reached the end of the hallway and peered carefully around a corner. Noticing several holes in the wall across from him, from the impact of bullets.
“Command, signs of recent combat, requesting back—“he was cut off, as two unknown beings slowly worked their way down the walls from a ventilation shaft near the ceiling. They stopped on the ground, staring back up at Jack, as if wondering what he was staring at.
“Command… are you getting this?” he whispered into his receiver.
“Sweep, fall back to cargo2, reinforcement’s enroot.”
