Keyboards
<div class="IPBDescription">Need a new one.</div> Hmm, it would appear that my old Logitech Elite isn't quite as invincible as I would have first though.
The WASD keys are knackered, and barely work. Don't even ask about the space bar...
I appear to have be degraded to playing long bouts of Diablo 2, seeing as all my FPS games are WASD based (I HATE the legacy arrow controls!).
So, I really need a new keyboard, and seeing as how Logitech have told me that they discontinued the Elite a long time ago, I need some recommendation for some keyboards.
The floor is open, however, should anyone mention the "Z-Board", I will take it upon myself to find out your home address, and beat you down with the knackered Elite, and jab the USB->PS/2 converter into your eye. Needless to say, I have sampled the Z-Board, and just cannot get on with it.
I would prefer a USB keyboard, seeing as I have a glut of 12 USB ports, of which I am only permanently using 3 of them. PS/2 is a option, however I would prefer USB.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, as would any addresses of where I can get one from (online or High Street, it matters not to me), HOWEVER, all companies must be based in the UK. I am NOT waiting a month for Fed-EX to deliver, and **** it up *again*...

I would recommend a Microsoft one as well, but most people had a hatred of all things MS.

My current keyboard except mine is black. Best one i've used up to date except for my old gateway "Clicky" keyboard with programmable F keys, F1-F20 <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> .
I've got a <a href='http://www.usbman.com/Reviews/MS%20Nat1.jpg' target='_blank'>Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro</a>. You can't get them anymore as I think they've been replaced with the <a href='http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productdetails.aspx?pid=019' target='_blank'>Microsoft Natural Multimedia Keyboard</a>.
I hear that the <a href='http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productdetails.aspx?pid=022' target='_blank'>Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite</a> is better than my pro though and MS still sell them so it might be worth a look.
I honestly find the non-ergo keyboards less comfortable ever since I got used to this one though; the curve and stuff works juuuust right. First time you use it you'll be all like "eww" but it grows on you quick :3
i dont like the extra buttons either i just have the logitechs cuz i like how the keys feel
I don't really notice much difference between keyboards unless they move things around where they shouldn't, such as the Microsoft keyboard I'm typing on now (at uni) where the home, end, insert, delete, pgup, pgdn block is oriented vertically not horizontally and I keep pressing the wrong keys.
<a href='http://www.ergodex.com/mainpage.htm' target='_blank'>Linky here</a>
Gem, I laugh at your Natural keyboard. I appalaude you for sticking with one though, and subseqently forcing yourself to be a better typist. Miss for Microsoft...
Omega, *GRR* on the link to NewEgg, I don't order from America, not after the almighty balls-up that Fed-Ex had with my HL2 order...
Venmoch, Do NOT tell me that my eyes are telling me the truth, and that link is to eBuyer's website. I blacklisted them long ago for the most atrocious customer service, tech support, and returns.
Chrono, what you've got pictured is the vanilla Logitech Internet Navigator. My one was an Internet Navigator SE, which was later badged as the Logitech Elite. I don't like the F-Lock key, as it turns off by default. Yes Logitech, I really want to open up my email client, instead of joining the Marine team. You see my gripe?
Cereal, The UltraX looks better than my chunk that is taking up so much desk space, and I always have like the typing speed that I can get up to on a notebook keyboard. My only reservation for the UltraX is that notebook keys can be slightly fragile under continuous use. But bollox to it, I'm ordering the UX.
Now you see why it took me a long time to decide on the Elite... All I can hope is that the UX lasts as long...
Cheers for the help all.

I have one of those, except it's black. As you can see, many buttons have been moved together, making it almost equal to a laptop keyboard. It takes a few days to get used to it, but otherwise it's nice. The LEDs for the NumLock etc are extremely bright <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> .
Watch out though, if you got a short temper: Under all buttons, there's small little separate rubbercylinder. If you hit the keyboard and buttons starts flying, it's most likely the rubberthingies start flying too, and if you got a messy room like mine, you'll never find them again!

Arrow keys FTW!
The person who introduced me to HL used numpad, and he's the only person i know to use it. Except he switched to WASD
I would reccomend it just cause the keys don't have hard springs and it seems to be durable enough. 2 years of almost explusive fps gaming with WSAD, and no noticable wear and tear.
<a href='http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=310819&pfp=SEARCH' target='_blank'>This one</a>
so its gotten alot cheaper, still a good buy for the feel and durability.
I just wish the F-Lock key would default to being on.
As to the user who claimed this would be carpel tunnel heaven? Only if you set it up the <i>right</i>(?) way will you get carpel tunnel. The point is to give you full freedom to set up key the way which feels most comfortable to you, instead of being confined to a pre-set layout.
I'm also sure they would give you sample layouts in their manual as well.
Yeah it is an Ebuyer site.
They're not THAT bad. Their like Overclockers.co.uk
But Cheaper <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Numpadders are a small minority, but at least they're sane. Seriously, you use the arrow keys? I haven't done that since Duke3D.
In the cheaper end of the spectrum, durable, and a semi-firm key pressure which I personally like.
Okay, it is a M$ product, but they are hated for their buisness practices, not because their products suck. (With a few notable exceptions.)
As for gaming layout, I personally use RDFG. It's the same as WASD except you have more keys under your pinky you can press without taking your fingers off the movement keys. It also keeps your finger away from that evil Windows key so you don't press it accidently.
And having used an ergonimic keyboard, they are lovely if your typing lots of papers or similar work with pages of words to type. For anything else though, I would stick with a straight run keyboard, that break in the middle renders half the keyboard unusable if you have one hand on the mouse.
