    That's not a thing to joke about, Caboose. Most DM's go through that. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

One of my DMs once had to put up with several in the group I was in rolling to masturbate, and serious discussion whether it took a strength or dexterity check followed by a constitution check.

    I'm not kidding. Seriously.

Aldaris is talking about my level 12 character - a Fighter 1/Wizard 5/Spellsword 3/Eldritch Knight 2/Dragonslayer 1 character wearing Twilight Mithral Plate Mail.

That give me 0% spell chance failure and the same AB as a 9th level fighter and the same spellcasting as a 9th level wizard.

    /me Stabs all things WoD.

I can't take any more teenangst goth wanabes.

yes I know, not all WoD people are like this. However I spent way to much of my teenage years hanging out with these people.

Nothing agains WW, I love Aberant, Trinity, Exalted, etc (never got to play Adventure!). Just the type of players that WoD attracts (well, ok I like changling also, but that just dosn't fit into the WoD the way most poeple play it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->).

    oh, and *COUGH*Ph0enixisatwink*COUGH*

and Testament, yah do realise that Caboose was referencing the Dead Ale Wives right there... right?

I fortunatly never had to deal with much of this stupidity (exept when playing WoD), but I know it exists, and all those who did have my sympathy.

    They all play Vampire anyway <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> Which I'm not that fond of.

The new ruleset for Mortals in the WoD however is much more interesting than Vampire. (Its also the one I like more)
Its all about normal people like you or I finding out what really bumps in the night. Or even going up against the living dead. Or perhaps even a good old ghost story. (With Exocisms <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> "The power of christ compells you!")

In fact theres no need for the paranormal at all! Its quite possible to do a Max Payne storyline in it. O.o

That and the fights you get can be spectacular.

/me ponders actualy bumbling around to take a look at these new rules...

It does sound very inspired by CoC.

I am actualy going to get to play a CoC game with some one who writes suplements for the game rather soon <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

In my opinion the basic WoD rulebook is well worth picking up (Its only $16.49 at <a href='http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1588464849/qid=1113911746/sr=8-3/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i3_xgl14/102-1604354-7499357?v=glance&s=books&n=507846' target='_blank'>Amazon</a>)

And that'll teach you everything to run it (Naturally) It doesn't tell you much about Vampires, Werewolfs etc but it doesn't need too.

The only book I would recommend getting after than (Only get it if you like it otherwise it may not be very useful.) is Antagonists. It isn't a monster manual. It has chapters on how enemies work. The first chapter is the living dead and this can be used to make any sort of living dead. (From classic zombie movie living dead to magicly made ones.)

The second chapter probably won't get that much use but its still worth looking at. Thats all about Hunters. (And not the ones in the old WoD with all the religious powers.) Its all about how normal people go about being a hunter and why.

The third is about cults and the methods they employ to get people and keep them as well as a load of rules for other stuff using them.

And the fourth is pretty much the monster manual with about 8 "Monsters" in. Except some of these aren't inherantly evil and some of them are amazingly sinister.

One called the Hunger is a virus that when triggered causes the sufferer to turn into a powerful cannibal. And, you could infect a player character with it.....

wow, a core book for somethign done by WW?

    IMPOSSIBLE.

    yet strangely cool.

Now I realy am tempted to pick it up (I have been out of the gaming loop for about a year now).
now if only they would bring back changling....

Apparently the new atmosphere is a lot like Changeling. But I could be wrong. Because I never played changeling. (Although there are rumours it may be brought back O.o)

hmmm... now that you mention it maybe that's why I get into all the tests; I used to be an in-house games tester for a games company back quite a while ago (left when my contract ran out because I didn't like the games the company made). Ah well whatever <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

As for the video than, while the voices are taken off the dead ale wives most people consider the accompanying it as the true 'original' to be the one made by the summoner devs for a giggle. The one with the big light demon in the kitchen and the guest appearance of a red faction trooper (which the team also made) :3

It was the one by the Dead Ale Wives that used the 8-bit arcade characters, but they were just regular people playing D&D. And some announcer talking about the true dangers of D&D and how it subverts children.

If anyone's curious about the 3.5 edition D&D rules there's a lot of it stored on the wizards of the coast site: <a href='http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35' target='_blank'>http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35</a>

Handy for trying to choose your classes I guess, as long as you keep in mind what rules they're changing for the game (spellpoints instead of prepping spells, etc).

<b>edit:</b> holy heck! just noticed this in the dev chat thingy!

    <b>edit 2:</b> and this!!!
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->'m glad that you all seem excited about our combat system. The main reason we're going with real-time combat is that we believe that combat in most MMORPGs is kind of boring, and that a real-time system can make combat more engaging and fun.

Just for the record, we're not going all-out twitch with our combat -- this game isn't going to play like a first-person shooter. (To be honest, we're not too crazy about the term "twitch combat" in the first place.) Instead, what we're creating is a combat system that emphasizes both player skill and D&D rules. To give you a basic example, let's look at a simple melee combat -- a fighter attacking an ogre:

In most MMORPGs, you target the ogre, get reasonably close to it, and press an attack button. Your character starts swinging his sword every 2 seconds, and the ogre starts swinging its club every 3 seconds. Your character's sword won't necessarily be passing through the ogre (and vice versa), but the server will make an attack roll for each animation and report the info back to you. This will keep happening until one of you drops dead, with no additional input required on your part. This is a bit of a simplification, since you might have some special items or abilities, or the ogre's AI might decide to run away or something, but this is the heart of a typical MMORPG combat system.

Now consider a fighter vs. an ogre in DDO. You spot the ogre, and move in to attack. You click your mouse button, and your avatar swings his sword. We're pretty forgiving with tracking -- if you're close, but not quite in melee range, your character will leap forward a bit as he swings his sword, but the sword needs to physically connect with the ogre if you're going to do any damage. If your sword did connect, the server performs a to-hit roll, comparing the roll + any attack bonuses you have to the ogre's armor class. If you hit, the system rolls damage. If not, you failed do any damage, and you'll have to hope for better luck with your next swing.

When the ogre attacks, the same formula applies. If you're fast enough (and your character's fast enough) to get away from the ogre before it swings, the ogre's not going to hit you. If you can't or don't want to move away, you can choose to block, which will give you a temporary increase to your AC. Either way, if the ogre's club connects with you when it swings, it'll make its own to-hit roll against your modified AC, and if the roll indicates a hit, you take damage. You and the ogre can trade blows in this manner until one of you is defeated or runs away.

Obviously, our combat will be a little bit deeper than this, once you factor in the environment, magic, feats, and special abilities; as well as the fact that you will usually have allies at your side, and will often be fighting multiple opponents at once.

I should also note that this is how things are spec'd and working right now, but since combat is such an integral part of our game, we won't hesitate to make changes if this system doesn't work for us in beta.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    <b>edit 3:</b> and THIS!!!
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Some dungeons will also have boss encounters, which will require a little more strategy and planning to overcome. We want our boss monsters to be more than bigger versions of other monsters who hit harder and have more hitpoints, so we're aiming to give these monsters specific behaviors that make the encounters exciting and memorable.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    YESSSSS!!! ~dances~
