Alcohol Has Lasting Effect On Cognition

Nooo my baileys coronas and bombay!
I've been drinking less often over the past year, and so I've had weeks at a time without alcohol. This has let me notice the following...

When I drink, for days after, I can't think quite right. Not a huge difference, but noticeable. This isn't just a hangover I'm talking about; I mean I drink 4 drinks on Saturday night. Sunday I wake up and can tell that I drank. This is normal. Except a general fuzziness pervades the following days and by Tuesday afternoon my brain is still a little messed up. After a week I'm back to normal.

Anyone notice this? Or am I imagining it? Or do I just have some strange alcohol reaction that I was blessed with?

Never noticed anything like this. Found any studies of similar cases to support this?

You know what the technical term for drunkness is?
    Intoxication.

Everytime you get drunk, your brain cells die.

    I don't drink either :p

And yup, it does cause memory damage. There's documented cases of heavy alcohol drinkers suffering permanent memory loss; they have to relearn so many things each morning that we take for granted... like their name, who they are, what age they are, etc. Their brain can't really retain this information for extended periods of time anymore so it always slips away again eventually.

Bear in mind that it has some differing effects on some people. I don't get hangover-headaches, for example, but my skin suffers for it (eczema all over :/).

You should leave what you do while ON alcohol out of the discussion.

    No seriously... what is eczema?

It's like a sort of irritation of the skin; it turns red and itchy and small bumps like blisters can appear. It's usually caused by stress but other stuff can do it too

Used to have it on my arms when I was really lil... itched like heck. Lucky it only happened when I got totally freaked out.

Surprisingly, i can say that right now, despite the hangover i'm suffering. I think i tend to like things like alcohol and smoking so much because so many people disapprove of it.

I don't disapprove of them personally essy; I'm just never going to do them myself any time in my life :p

It's funny because I've always sorta had an inverse reaction to peer pressure; the more people tell me I should do something the more I become repelled by whatever it is.
That's why I don't smoke, drink alcohol or have rampant sex with strangers; I just take the mickey out of all my friends who do XD

Come to think of it essy aren't you failing at rebellion by doing the same as everyone else? I mean soooo many people drink it's not funny. It's totally common :3

I used to drink, never smoked. Never had sex with rampant strangers. Although I say Amen on taking the micky out of those that do, as normally something funny but stupid happens with them.

People like us get called boring, but we have more fun than those that drink. Especially when it comes to the morning after

I heartily agree. A person who is sober is always good to go, and can always fully appreciate what they are doing. On the other hand, drunken people make easy kills when playing online, since the lag is all in their heads.

pfft, saying that sober people have more fun than drunk people is a load.

I used to have so many fun nights back when I was like 19 just being drunk and owning in counter-strike. I always noticed that I ended up hitting people's feet the most, but I would always keep winning like normal.

And more recently, playing Burnout 3 online with a heavy buzz just lets you take in the experience of the fast driving.

Back to the original post, I don't notice any lasting effects.
