<div class="IPBDescription">to all those lazy uk "kids"</div> So in the UK there seem to be job shortages in trades. One in particular being plumbing, I found it interesting as over 50% of plumbers are the age of 50+ and there are still alot of apprenticeships and training courses with alot of free spaces. I myself am registering alot of interest in this as it may not be the most glamorous job, but it is indeed a well paying job.
Simple message here to the younger audience (or someone stuck in a dead end job in the UK) who have no real interest in a job or further education simply lacks your enthusiasm or whatever, take an interest in it. It pays.
PS. Post is rather random I know, I thought it would be nice to voice the opinion as my father gets an early retirement (with full pension) due to his loyalty to his current workplace and he's going in to the trade himself. My friend who is the laziest a*s I've known with no qualifications is also thinking about the trade. I think we've done our homework, it's time less people were scrounging benefits too.

Back on topic, yeh, people on benefits shopuld be forced into getting jobs unless there is a medical reason not to.
Hmm...

So, there's a shortage of plumbers. Thus, the wages of plumbers goes up.
This looks like capitalism to me.
I went to work at a horrible little "theme park" for the summer, and one of my collegues wasn't there by choice. He was given a list of minimum wage jobs, and forced to apply for them. If he didn't get a job, he wouldn't get benefits.
Just sayin'. I don't know if this applies to all single, able-bodied people on benefits, or whether he'd done something stupid and got cut off for it.
As for the shortage of plumbers and electricians, yeah, definately. I had to get a plumber out to fix my boiler - took a couple of weeks, and a dozen excuses on his part. Even if you do find a reliable plumber, he'll be booked up until the apocalypse.
So remember all you kids going into engineering, learn the trade you'll be engineering for.
My dad thought up a great counter to this:
You want to get on Welfare, or any other federal aide program that litterally supports you(other than social security)? Viesectomy(sp I'm sure is wrong), or Historectomy. Then you can get it.

Yeah, because Eugenics isn't a crime against humanity or anything.
EDIT: I'm assuming you're telling poor people to get vasectomies.

So a single mum (after her husband left her with the babies) who has worked for 20 years has to be humiliated and sterilized in order to get money?
(If this was a joke, I apologize in advance - my sarc-o-meter's been on the fritz.)

I'm currently doing A-Levels at a crappy rate and getting poor grades, in actual fact most of my friends at the college are. 1 in about 10 of us are on target or above target. If you had the qualifications from GCSE's to do an A-Level you were forced to, even if you wanted to do an engineering skill, hence all the engineers in my college are "thickos" with no qualifications.
It's another reason to why so many people are going to universities then not getting a job, other than people thinking offices pay more.
Incidentally, did you get that programming job?

No, but i'm still working towards doing something i want to do, rather than giving up and working as a plumber.

There's this thing called Reality. It seems far off then it closes in at 187,000 miles a second and hits you like a mack truck carrying 12 tons of bricks. I wanted to fly helicopters in the Marines. I know I can't and I am well aware of my odds even if I could. But I don't go living a delusional pipe dream because it just sets you up for a world of hurt.
And plumbers make alot of money as do most tradesman. But to have the balls to imply that they failed at everything else and resorted to that is arrogant and ignorant
And besides who has the full time reliable job that won't be thrown to some guy in india who does it for 20x less and works 4x harder?
Really who is the failure in this lovely scenario
(I'm not flaming really)
"I wanna cut your willy!"
I'm applying for retail jobs in places like virgin, HMV, waterstones and stuff, who I know are looking for people so hopefully one'll take me on ^^

how do you know their children will be a burden to society? What if they grow up to be productive scientists/doctors/lawyers/etc?

Sterilize the Homeless! And while you're at it, sterilize everybody who is not in the top two tax brackets!
In conclusion, <b><span style='color:red'>God</span> <span style='color:white'>Bless</span> <span style='color:blue'>America</span>.</b>

I partly agree with Olmy.
I wouldn't say it's stuck up as such but more of the culture in which Esuna, like most of us are brought up in. It's the go to school, get the grades, go to university and then follow up with going out in the big wide world and "making something of yourself" attitude which is portrayed by most parents and schools.
Aspirations and dreams aren't shattered nor given up on because you decide to take the back seat on them and go in to a trade for financial security, in actual fact it makes more sense to take up a trade and follow up your dream in your spare time. It's also good for mental stability as having the financial stability, and the dream still alive to motiviate yourself through the 'back seat trade' job.

Most excellent.
Yeah, but we have to do something to pass the time.
