Ds Problems, Runs But Doesn't?

<div class="IPBDescription">Problems with dedicated server</div> Alright, I've tried running a dedicated a few times, and I keep getting weird results. First off, I do have a firewall, but I don't quite know all the port numbers I'm supposed to open, so I opened up 27000 to 27105. So I tried that, but only I could find the server on my computer (no I wasn't playing the server computer). It would never be under the server list or anything, and it would only show up when I added the server my self.

I thought maybe it might have been my firewall settings, so I wanted to test it out and decided to completely drop the firewall. So I disabled it, and it did the same thing. It would won auth. so that's not the problem, but it never listed the server in the server list (yes, I had the right filters on). When I gave the ip to a friend to see if he could connect to it, he added the server, but to him it wasn't responding, it said it was running HALFLIFE and not ns (we also tried DOD).

Am I missing a setting somewhere? This was normaly done going through the game, going to internet games, and running the dedicated server that way. Though after that, I went into the server.cfg file, and checked out things there, then ran the dedicated server from outside the game. One thing I've noticed, was that I could find it on my LAN games for some reason, even though I'm not running a LAN dedicated server. Is there a step by step I can follow? Or can anyone help me with this?

Try port 27015. Standard Half-Life port.

do you have -ns in the line?

Try turning logging on in the server config (log on) to see any messages

Try checking this FAQ for what ports you need to open. Your router may not be a Linksys but it should give you all the relevant info you need.

Try using the All Seeing Eye and see if that finds your server:

Thanks alot, that really really helped. I now have a working server. The only problem I have now, is that players keep getting dropped. Think you might know what might be causing this? I read the thing in that zip file you gave me and said if you have "logging" on it might drop the players. I looked everywhere and can't find where this is.

Chances are its your firewall, my advice is to stop using it if you want to run a dedi server as they only ever cause trouble.

Most people have firewalls when running a dedicated server. Mine is set up so people can join through it. It's like they can play for a certain amount of time, but then the server just drops everyone for some reason.

I really don't think it's the firewall, it's probably something in a cfg somewhere maybe. I was able to host the server just fine, with and without the firewall, though people still get booted. There is no log that records whatever on the firewall, or anything that resets it. Perhaps someone could make a good example cfg? I just got help from someone about the firewall thing, so I don't think it's that.

If Vadakill could post again, would be nice... think he knows a bit more about my problem... maybe I'll PM him.
