Rappelling Is Fun

Yea.. so I'm taking a rock climbing class here at teh university... yesterday they decided to have us rappel... so I get to my turn, and I hate heights (falling rather)... and REALLY don't like rappeling seeing as we have to climb out onto a pillar with about half an inch for a foothold... so anyway I start to go down and the guy is like "ok hold onto that rope in front of you"... so I hold on... i HOLD..... this is the result...

I've always wanted to rappel since my friends did it in JROTC. They rappelled off the side of our auditorium (about 4 stories high).

Curious, last time i did any rock climbing and reppelling the robes they used didnt cause any friction as such you could not get friction burns. That was some years ago back in my youthful days, still fond of the 50MPH zip line myself <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Not alot of damage though, give it 2-3 days to heal and all will be fine. Ive got cuts all along my arm off the cars i work with, you kind of get used to it.

Ouch. I would do more repelling than I do now, but I find the trip up to be more satisfying. (rock climbing)

Nasty wounds there. Worst I gotten was a fractured wrist, and some nasty hits to the head.

Unless you <i>want</i> burns you newver <i>NEVER</i> grab the line as you are rappelling. You should be wearing gloves and using your brake. The brake also gets hot enough to give you 2nd degree burns at times so be careful.

Just as a side note for those who are curious, it was a grinding wheel about 5 years ago and it turned out well enough, I got to keep the wheel. It's hanging up in my garage now (little demented maybe?).

Back in 8th grade, my tech lab teacher told our class of a few past injuries as part of the begining saftey lecture. One guy lost his entire thumb. As for fun screwups?
Growing up in my family, not much makes me go eww any more. Generaly it is just "Cool!"

My dad has 2 scars on the inside of his legs from trying to climb a greased flag pole (he got the bright idea of ussing sand to increase friction... worked to well)
I have 3 eyebrows (sliced through one, lots of blood and stiches)
broken bones, sprined ankles etc etc etc
sitting in the station wagon, turning around as my bro puts his mountain bike in the trunk, seeing large amounts of blood runnign down his harm <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
