I saw weird dream (I have a fever so dreams are very weird now) where I saw dead onos blocking a door and marines just keep shooting it. This just reminds me, that does bodies in HL2 block bullets etc? If yes, so can dead onos be a big meat shield then? And could that body block door so well that no marines or aliens can go there, except when body will vanish.

I have no idea how dead onos bodies would affect movement and bullet impacts, but if we <i>could</i> use them as meatshields, that'd be incredibly funny, if not a little annoying.
I'd be more upset if I tripped over a dead gorge. Silly fatties.
Its not needed in NS and because of higher pings I wont like it.
Would a Heap of dead corpses make mine ladders obsolent <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Or lerks taking a nosedive after a shotgun blast. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Of course, you could push them away (stronger creatures pushing harder).
Would add a nice aspect to the game.
and skulks could bite your gun off you and take it away <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> or bite your legs off and watch you suffer, or lerks could lift you on a onos horn and go to marine base,noone would shoot.

heh Ive always wondered just how the humans get rid of all those dead oni bodies lying around at the end of a battle.
What a mess.

right... and since you can only take half a mag out of the armory at a time, you should have to sit there and merge the individual bullets into a single magazine before you get a full one.
Dev team doesn't need excuses as to why bodies disappear -- they already disappear, with no excuses made.
Anyway, I think it'd be cool to have corpses stay for a bit... I don't think it'd cool to have them block.
The reason the Onos ragdoll should be server-side is because client-side ragdolls give players who disable them a competitive advantage, especially with such a large one as the Onos. An Onos corpse should be very rare anyhow, and it should disappear fairly quickly, so anything trapped in the stomach can escape.
Personally, I think Sandstorm has it right. With all the ways the HL engine was bent, the HL2 engine could probably easily be bent so that a different effect besides a fading effect occured at death. Most likely, there will be no use for chainsaws..
..even though it'd be nice and fun to cut up Oni into pieces and have roasted garlic Onos. Yumm <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
In HL2, the big bodies, such as an Antlion Guard or a strider do collide with the player after they die. As a rule of thumb, any corpse laying on the ground that is below waist level should be debris to simulate the player stepping over it, (even if you are actually walking through it) Bigger things, you have to go around them. In NS, this would only apply to the Onos ragdoll.
I can think of a few ways to make the Onos ragdoll simpler for the server to handle. It only needs to control the position of the center mass so The limbs would be calculated client side.
Agreed, I would rather see the server side resourses devoted to more active in game scenarios then onos corpses.
But could you imagine marines an 8 foot wall of various alien bodies just piling up higher and higher? Those of you who have been crazy enough to manually turn on ragdoll collision right before playing the HL2: Antlion troopers map will know what I talking about... And will know how bind bogglingly impressive it looks, even at 10fps...
Marines would do the <span style='color:orange'>Doom3</span> thing, and incenerate into thin air. (But have it a <span style='color:blue'>blue burn</span> color instead of a <span style='color:red'>red</span> color like doom.) HL2 also does it with the orbs from the secondary shot on the pulse rifle.
