You could probably go into a infestation taking root and growing into a hive. If you've seen the AlienVsPredator movie you can image the next part somewhat as the first hive becomes active and actually laying down the first eggs. The eggs (your normal NS eggs here) will shake and make lovely groaning screaching sounds as they hatch the first wave of skulks.
You could proably also set it up so the skulks do not hatch until the marines have (welded through entry door into MS)/(left dropship and entered MS)/(Dust off from point Alpha and entered through airlock into structure), thus you don't have to keep anyone back with func_wall.
Your could actually do this with regular NS Multiplayer maps in this fashion, but only do it for the first time on the map, thus everyone gets into the mood without getting irritated at having to go through it again after 5 mins, simply because the aliens rushed and won.
Anyone joining the game, say after 1 min, will spawn the normal fashion as it is now.
I dunno...I don't like the above idea. As stated above, the whole idea of NS was that the marines are called in to halt a growing (or already present) infestation. While it would make sense for marines to be dropshipped in and get briefed as they do so, weld open the emergency base and set up...it would make more sense that the aliens were starting to "infest" the map while this is going on...perhaps with atmosphering "warnings" from the hivemind that humans are detected in the station...or something.
The obvious problem with the whole idea of "cinematic" starts is that they can prove to be tedious after the 100th time you've gone through them...this would be even worse for the aliens waiting to get hatched, rather than able to look about and enjoy a proper view as a marine (which would still need to be questioned in tediousness value)

The bacterium will normally focus all of it's efforts on destroying the nanites, however if it detects a human presence then it will redirect some of it's resources into putting up the starting hive and then using it to start hatching skulks.
This means that it is quite pheasable for the aliens to have a cut-scene, where the instant a marine foot makes contact with the floor of the space-station, a small ripple of communication flies through the bacterium network and *pop* a hive appears. You could even have it all as part of the very same cutscene.

Oh please, the Cinematics would turn into the DOD's pre 1.0 para_ maps
they rocked but everyone whined about them.
Here's a idea that would fulfill both sides:
Map starts off for Marines on the ship which is hovering/landed on the pad with 2 black widescreen bars that would last about 2-4 seconds and HUD would be disabled for thsoe seconds. Players would be able to run/shoot and do whatever they wish and run to the comm chair, the 2 bars would fade and the dropship would wait 15-20 seconds. After those seconds it takes off and any marines still on would have to wait in the spawn que when an Ip is built.
I dont see why all of you are thinking it would start off with skulks chomping at marines jumping off the ship.. they would start off just like they always do, possibly waiting to spawn but the spawn time would be twice as fast as the "normal" time at the start so it gives enough time for marines to set up after being delayed 5-10 seconds.
If they're up for "cinematics" just have the aliens hibernating and a quick round about movie clip swooping around the hive and then zooming in on a skulk's face which would opens its eyes and then would be played into first person (to make it seem that skulk is YOUR player)
and then things would be off and running
Or just screw the cinematics altogether and give the players a pilotable dropship that has a built in CC and can be built on! Ofcourse, if the aliens destroy it, then it's GG...

lol
And I loved the
"Squad One: Operation Human Shield"
And I thought a long time ago NS:S was a no-no , or did Flay and the team change their minds?

I hope source comes out, they need to work harder :/
Aliens could meanwhile be choosing an initial hive.
To counter drop-point camps, just have the dropship blast the area right before the doors open.

5 per ship

1 rr in the beginning, 1 in the end where everyone meets each other.
marines -> dropship
aliens -> a infested pod or something like that?
ppl who joined late or f4ers have to wait a while to get in action for dropship/pod to land after game started.
sounds good? no more "omg lets start the game!!!!!"
