But mine does not work
I've had this western digital drive for more than a year and last friday it died. Wedness day the replacement drive arrived. Less than 2 hours ago it died. The problem appears to be that the drive no longer spin. Any suggestions of a way to fix the drive or am I going to have to get another repacement?

If the drive isn't spinning, I don't think that you can fix it or have it fixed without paying the cost of a new drive anyway. I hope you have a warranty.

    Get a new PSU maybe?

The psu is fine but its the drive itself that is the problem. Luckily the drive is still under warranty for a few months anyway.

I was simply thinking that the PSU may be broken and causinga surge to the drive, frying it.

We thought of that but it probbalbly would have fried every thing on that line as well.

If you're rich enough, send it to one of those pro companies and throw in a lot of cash for your data. I'm afraid your drive is dead though, and that unless the data is very useful (work/discovery of elixir of eternal youth) you can't have it back for an affordable price.

    fix'd

next time you get a drive...

plug it into a new comp FIRST then plug it in to your old one.

Computers can do very impressive things when it comes to screwing up.

If the power/ide cable you use (or even the slot it is pluged into) got dmged it could keep on frying ANYTIHNG you put in
