im too poor to be able to afford a monthly subscription to WoW, so i need some rpg recommendations. i want to play something that has similar gameplay to WoW. im planning to get neverwinter nights, but i was wondering what else there is
I've been an avid multiplayer gamer for years now, and hopped from game to game to find a good community where admins are honorable, players are team-oriented, and games remain entertaining. I have yet to find a free multiplayer game that does this. I've come to realize that in order to get a continually evolving, entertaining game you're going to have to pay for it. After playing Anarchy Online on my free subscription, I've come to understand why people pay for these subscriptions.

I'd say get WoW and somehow scrounge up the money.
No other MMO has come close to being WoW, and no single player game has either, except maybe Morrowind, but that's an MMO trapped in an offline game's body.

if you're into pvp battles, navyfield <a href='http://www.navyfield.com' target='_blank'>http://www.navyfield.com</a> that us forumites have been playing is starting to blossum nicely (it's 99.999999999999999999% pvp). the economy and balance needs a lot of work still but it's free while it's in beta, and it's addicting like a drug. if you like killing AI monsters, then guildwars is the way to go (in beta also) <a href='http://www.guildwards.com' target='_blank'>http://www.guildwards.com</a>. you can buy a beta kit from your local game store like electronic boutique. a EB near me was selling them for 1 cent (yes, 1 cent!)
navyfield might go pay4play after retail, they haven't decided yet. guildwars will be free and diablo2esque style gameplay

I played Talesweaver using the English patch. It was workable, if a bit shoddy, since it was a user creation. But the important stuff had english names because of that, so it was good enough for me. Just be sure to set your unicode settings to enable japanese so you get the correct characters instead of "^$#%^*#" for your item/weapon/etc names.

As a recovering EQ addict, I say don't play WoW. You'll end up hating yourself when you realize that for the last 6 months, you've neglected your social life, wasted a crapton of money, and came out with nothing. Not to mention it's the same old rehashed gameplay of every other MMO out there.
MUDs are free and fun too. I like GodWars muds for PKing people.

No other MMO has come close to being WoW, and no single player game has either, except maybe Morrowind, but that's an MMO trapped in an offline game's body.

The PK sytem and economy is far-beyond f***ed up (yes, it's that bad) and it's a <b>POINT AND CLICK</b> :disgusted:
Zero immersion factor, as well as you needing to endlessly grind on monsters to get anywhere. That, and there are two versions: Pay to Play and Free to Play. P2P gets everything, F2P nothing. You can't even post in their damn forums if you arn't a member. navyfield might go pay4play after retail, they haven't decided yet. guildwars will be free and diablo2esque style gameplay

Trickster is fun, got some friends giving it a few test runs. l'd say give it a run if you have the space.
I played Talesweaver using the English patch. It was workable, if a bit shoddy, since it was a user creation. But the important stuff had english names because of that, so it was good enough for me. Just be sure to set your unicode settings to enable japanese so you get the correct characters instead of "^$#%^*#" for your item/weapon/etc names.
