Skulk & Vent Fights

Attacks are useless in lowvents
Just ran into something, it was the begining of a game and I think we were playing on the map Nothing. Anyways the map had a realy low vent leading to a nearby resource nozzle. I was doing the usual harrassing of the marines while they try to set up a resource tower, and I had a few encounters with some marines while in this vent. Each time I would supprise the marine as they round the corner in the vent and I would get 5 bites at point blank range, I was right up against the guy and these bites didn't kill him.

The first time I thought it was a fluke but after the 3rd time in the game I realize there must be something wrong. It wasn't due to lag either, cause I had a nice low ping of 150(low for NS that is) My guess is that the trace for the Lurk's bite attack must be too high that it lands the bites above the vent making it ineffective.

If any one else runs into this problem, then maybe we should notify some of the devs cause not being able to attack properly in a low vent is very discraceful to the Skulk.

I have encountered this bug too I was taking a shortcut through the vents as a skulk, and as i rounded a corner i bumped into a marine without armour and armed with a LMG. He had hes back turned against me so i decided to attack. I started to bite him, and i continued to bite but nothing happened, and after atleast 10 bites at point blank range (he was sitting still), he simply turned around and blasted me away in a second.

I have unfortinantley encountered this problem in a more dramatic way, The marines had us pushed back to our last hive, at a map wich i cant remember the name on, and there was a vent opening just outside our exit. And offcourse the marines took advantage of this and they sat in the vent with HA and HMGs, and because they where crounched inside the vents noone on our team could hurt them, and they could fire unhindered at our hive.

So what could be causing this problem? Is there something with the hitboxes while crounched or is it like sunblaze said ?

Yep, I have seen it too. I was a cloaked Lerk in a vent. Marine came by with a LMG. I umbraed and started biting him. He started firing into me and my umbra cloud. He shot until the cloud was over and killed me. I must have bit at him 20 times. I think I'm going to start biting at the marines ankles (even as an Onos) cause I really seem to be having troubles hitting some of them.

I wonder if it may go even farther than this. I've seen an onos not able to kill a single marine who was crouched in a corner. Maybe there are a few code errors as far as the height of certain attacks go...

I find it fairly easy to kill marines in the vents as lerk, just cloak and let them walk by (only works in the wide vents), then start biting them in the back.

Yeah, I got this before. In the cargo room on hera, near the marine spawn theres a big load of crates with a passage in them that goes in, then up the wall. I was attacking a marine base there and a guy started firing at him. So I ran into the crates and out up onto the ceiling. I saw him crawl into the crates behind me, so I chuckled, ran down into the crates and came up on him from behind. I got about 14 skulk bites (he was in light armour.. but I could kill a heavy with that) before he finally noticed, turned around, and killed me in a single burst.

    No fair.

I had a similar problem with the Lerk. I was in the marine base, attacking their last spawn pad. I was biting at it for 4-5 seconds before I realised that it wasn't doing any damage. I was standing right beside the pad and looking straight into it, and I didn't do any damage till I looked up a bit above the pad. Of course, by then it was too late. I've also had this problem with Onos.

It's not a bug... you're just missing. Seriously.

As a Fade, I had this duel with a marine in a vent on bast... he ran out of all his ammo and I cornered him in the vent... He had his knife out as this point, swinging futiley. I was expecting an easy kill, and swung and swung away. I heard the swings hitting, but he didn't die after the first 3... I then realized I was hitting the wall of the vent, so I crouched, looked straight at him, and one hit and he died

The "bite hit" sound is the same on walls or on enemies. You have to make extra careful that you're hitting the guy.

I actually had a good experience with a skulk in the vent. I was playing nancy, and I was at the top of one of the big vent drops. I started climbing down and a marine with a jetpack started going up the vent! He must have noticed me too late becuase I landed on his head and bit him to death. Man, that was awesome. I even typed "pwned" to drive the point home

This is a known issue; it's being worked on. I believe you are much more likely to connect if you aim slightly *down* of horizontal.

As for Onos vs. crouched marine - did *you* crouch? Easiest way.
