It's not perfect.
Sure, the patch is mighty cool at the start of the game, but it doesn't balance teams when some people leave from the other team. I was just at a vesion 1.0.1 game with 4 marines and 8 aliens.

There's only so much that can reasonably be done. Would you really find it acceptable to be yanked off your team in the middle of a game to keep the numbers even just because some people on the other team bailed? I can't say I would. All you can hope for in that circumstance is that other players join and are shuttled to the team with fewer players.

Just to add to what Relic said... just imagine you're a gorge, you're just about to build that 3rd hive, then a marine suddenly leaves the game and bang...you're suddenly a marine and your poor alien brethren are out of luck.

Maybe the game could switch you to the other team when you die.
That would still be drastic, but you'd at least know that the game can't uproot you at any moment.

I believe getting yanked from the team SHOULD happen. On one condition: you died. You can't just yank people out of gameplay, that's inhuman But most games I know do this, someone leaves, you die, you spawn for the other team. It's a small price to pay to keep gameplay fun and equal. Ive yet to play a game where slightly inbalanced teams didn't ruin the entire game.

I aree to the yank dead people thing... i hate games with 10vs 3 as one i played today and the marines just laughed at us when we wanted even teams adn called themesf the better team since they manage to win tiwce(the server ahdnt patched but anywa, the first game we had even teams ov 8vs8 or so them 5 guys in our team left.....)

right after that we had fines teams again and we totaly screwed the marines but still non eof the original mariens had chosen the alien team

i just wish the **obscenity** of the world could stay out of this mod....

As long as the lag issues have been fixed that's all I care about right now. The game was unplayable for me before now. I'll worry with balance issues later.

I personally think that players become much more emotionally invested in their teams, with NS, though. I mean, in CS, you die and switch, well, you've still basically got the same weapon, you're just shooting the guys in the ski masks now.

But in NS it can be quite a culture shock to be running around on walls and flying one minute, and be a marine the next. Even if you've died before being switched, it can still be pretty frustrating if you've spent half the game waiting to finally be able to evolve into a Fade or Onos, the 3rd hives jsut come online, then you happen to die and find yourself suddenly on the crappy end of a massive Onos assault. That can be pretty disheartening, especially if that game has been running for the last hour and a half.

But I understand that suddenly having half of your team drop out of the game leaving the teams way out of balance can be frustrating, too. Not really any easy solutions to the problem.

I dont think the game should auto switch you just becase someone left. That would p1ss people off real bad. It could even ruin NS. Its up to the people that are playing to decied how they want to even up the teams.

BTW: most of the time there are more mariens than aliens. I think untill people start to get good at being aliens, mariens will always be a more popular choice to play.
