What Settings Did He Use To Render?

this is my first model that i've ever made in a 3d program (3dstudiomax)

my rendering doesn't look like the one the guy made on the tutorial: http://www.evermotion.org/tutorials/modeling/tube/

maybe he used a 3dmax rendering plug-in? or does anybody know what settings he has on?

this is mine:

He included lighting in his render and put a plane underneath his model. Creating a plane is really easy. Under create tab, go to standard primitives (the dropdown box on top) and then click on the Plane button to create it. Place it under your model by going to one of the sideviews and adjusting the position of the plane.

Next, the lighting. Still under the create tab, there should be a lighting button somewhere at the top (third from the left). Click on it and then create an omni light. Under the modify tab, check the Shadows On checkbox. There's a dropdown box under the checkbox. You can choose either "shadow map" or "area shadows". Shadow map is faster (but speed won't really matter with your model) but area shadows produces more accurate shadows (again not really a big deal with your model).

You probably will have to use more than one omni to get the desired effect or you could also experiment with the other light types. You can also choose the colour of the light and its strength. Under the modify tab of a light, Intenisty/Color/Attenuation controls the color and strength. Multiplier controls the strength while the box beside it is where you choose the colour of your light.
