A Question About Motion And Sensory

:D
Ok, so cloaking got a revamp in 3.0. woohoo! But I'm wondering, when will motion tracking pick you up? As in, say you have the cloaking upgrade, will motion tracking pick you up if your at 10%+ visibility, or what? I'm just curious.

This is really good question, Something new to wonder. I think it is when you are walking you dont show up while cloaked, thou it is just a guess

    Hi,

Here are my thoughts on that matter. From an alien point of view you can see when or whether you are cloaked or not (you can see it in the moddel).

    (1) With a sensory chamber in the hood you can run and still be cloaked. So with sensory chamber in the hood: the more speed you generate, the more you are visible, but not uncloaked and as such not vissible on motion tracking. You are however uncloaked with sensory chamber when:
    - the area is you are in is scaned.
    - you attacked (used attack in slot 1 to slot 4).
    - you were shot at.

    (2) But without sensory chamber in the hood, but with the cloack upgrade you need to walk in order to not show up on motion tracking.

So to answer your question we must look at situation (2). Walking means staying cloaked; running means uncloaking. You are (don't know the percentages) more cloaked while standing still then when walking.

EDIT: So in fact it is so that when you have the cloack upgrade - such as in situation 2 - AND you run, you show up on motion tracking even though you ARE cloaked!!! Now isn't that weird ^^.
But it makes sense to be able to track aliens - once they have a certain speed (and more speed means being more visible) - such as in situation 2.

QUOTE

O Major changes to the alien cloaking upgrade:
    - Players moving faster than walking pace will gradually become more visible the faster they move, but only to a max visibility of 30%.
    - Players using Cloaking upgrade will no longer be fully visible at any time unless attacking or being attacked. Unless of course you run and motion tracking has been researched. I don't know though at what % of visibility you show up on motion tracking with the cloack upgrade
Edit -> This statement is not true: when you use the cloak upgrade, you become more cloacked the more sensory chambers are available. This goes from 1 to 2 to 3 sensory chambers, the 4th sensory chamber will not give you more cloack-power. End Edit
Can anyone give me more information on that?)
    - You have to wait 3 seconds after uncloaking before you begin to cloak again.
    - Turrets will not fire at slow moving aliens (-> players with less than 10% visibility).
    - Increased visibility for aliens moving at greater than normal moving speed (bunnyhopping, gliding, etc.).

    END EDIT

Just my thoughts, not certain though.

    Greetz,

Just to clarify, motion tracking picks you up if you exceed a certain speed (which I believe is walking speed) unless you're in range of a sensory chamber. This hasn't changed in the new version.

Xtof, the amount of sensory chambers for the cloaking upgrade (ie cloaking level) doesnt affect the visibility (or lack of) of the alien. Succesive levels of cloaking only decrease the time taken to cloak after being visable.

For an alien to not be picked up by motion, they must be fully cloaked or not moving (looking around isnt moving). With only the cloaking upgrade this requires walking, running with the cloaking upgrade will cause the alien to only be partially cloaked.

An sc allows you to be fully cloaked regardless of speed, so running wont show on mt if your near a sensory chamber (because you stay fully cloaked), this is also regardless of wether or not you have the cloaking upgrade. Attacking inside sc range will uncloak you and hence be shown on mt.

Also, motion tracking blips will not appear for the player if the alien is in line of sight, cloaked or not.

I'm pretty sure looking around is considered moving to MT unless that changed in 3.0 final

Now that is wrong, everything else then does shows on - when speking uncloaked. cloaked is all different ballgame.

Just a tip to counter that, keep an eye on the minimap.

I don't think that Cloaking has anything to do with Motion Tracking.

I could be wrong, but you are detected on MT when you run. When walking you are NOT detected. I don't think that Sensory Chambers inhibit Motion Tracking either.

The amount of cloaking you have does not make a difference.

    Can anyone verify this?

Mt shows any movement of any alien is he is not cloaked.

Looking around doesnt show on mt, walking does.

I didnt test with celerity/cloaked skulks for instence...maybe high speed cloaked aliens show up on mt, but I doubt.

I'm pretty sure that being in range of a sensory chamber prevents you from showing up on motion tracking.

As for aliens with cloaking, they vary from 5% visible to 30% visible. At 10% visible, turrets can see the alien. It would make sense for motion tracking to use the same value, but I don't know that it actually works that way.

In sensory range, running or walking: Can not be picked up by MT
Walking with cloak: Can not be picked up by MT
Running with cloak: Can be picked up by MT
Walking without cloak: Can be picked up by MT

Exactly, if you are fully cloaked (5% visable) then you wont be picked up by motion (and obviously not moving wont get picked up either).

I was starting to wonder about this, glad it's here
