i dont have a router. I have been running a server through steam for a while and recently i found out its not suggested (thanks depot). SO i hooked it up to run in c:/hlserver (through hldsupdatetool). Now when i add it to my favorites it comes up nr. I am currently runnin git through steam if you look in my sig. I run the server on the same machine (most of the time) as i play on (which is getting less and less often).

When you are playing on your own server, either on the same computer or another computer in the same network, you can't see it on the master server list. You can only see it by putting your network's 192.xxx.x.x number in your favorites list. Other people outside your network can see your server on the master server list. Check out http://gametiger.com/search?server=
If you want, I could try to find your server....

Okay, did you create a .bat file when running your server through the HLDS? Make sure your open the ports needed on any firewall you are running. If you have Windows XP, disable the built-in firewall.

If you are using Windows XP, go to your network connections and right-click your dsl/cable/lan connection and go to properties. Click the advanced tab and disable your firewall from there. The Windows XP firewall causes more problems than it is worth. Besides, almost all 3rd party firewalls are better than it....

If you have something like AIM, MSN, or IRC it might be faster to talk that way.
