Ns 3.0f = Bandwidth Hog

i got my server online a couple hours ago to see if i could reconfigure everything to work correctly. so i put ns_siege007 on, lock the server and dance around the map.

good lord, net_graph shows that my client is requesting 3x to 4x the data it used to.

previous in/out:

out: 1.62
in: 1.28

current in/out

out: 3.53 (goes up when moves around)
in: 2.10

um WTH?!

that basically cuts out all of the small servers such as myself, my internet connection cant handle 10 players on 3.0F without severe lag, unlike beta 5 where 10 players was no sweat.

Heres some stats to look at. It doesn't appear to be a massive increase in bandwidth used for me, but it does increase slightly.

The redout bugfix is causing the extra bandwidth... we're looking at alternatives now.

I'm going to get a better reading on my 12 player server, but currently can say performance is significantly worse. I experience choke on it now that I've never had before.

I don't see a large difference. We managed to get 14 players going on a home dsl connection, though 4 of the players were on the lan. Even still, the outbound traffic for the remaining 10 topped out at 300kbit/sec.

I was noticing a lot of extra bandwidth being used as well... then I realized that I had forgotten to put my sv_maxrate back in the server.cfg. Its 20,000 by default.

Been running fine since i dropped it back to 8000.

15 players and when it reaches around lets say 9 it becomes a lag fest. I tell people to check there rate in case it was change (i thought this my self). Hope thisll soon be delagged a bit.

I've been running a 22 player server since July of 2003.

This release (and the accompanying lag) caused us to drop playercount to 18 to get the server back in playable form.

in the readyroom on a couple of maps, i have seen the kb/s inbound to the client at 10 kb/s

    now thats bad.

    i have a 40 kb/s connection, and that means i can only serve 4 players X.x

I Also had a big jump with 18 on large Kustom maps , Then i set sv_rate 9999 & sv_minrate 200. It alot better now but still 10% higher than beta5..
