    the panels like kinda wierd... but its nicely detailed. overall quite nice though, but a lot of it imo would depend on the final skin. and what happened to all the other high poly projects <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> shotgun, mine, armory, TF

    Man, don't force me to start working on my own high-poly armory again!

    I like the arms on the panels, I feel like copying that idea for my own <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Don't worry, I won't. I have other ideas on where polys ought to go.

    panels look nice, are you going to update teh REST of the model to include the same kind of detail?
  • MausMaus Join Date: 2002-11-03 Member: 5599Members
    You're adding detail to the wrong places. Concentrate on the flat octagonal sections - the keypad is a pointless thing to concentrate on. Hell, it's probably touch-screen anyway.

    Which sections..
    And dont forget im NOT done, still have vents to place, maybe ill even put in a nice little low-poly ammo dispenser

    I guess great mind think alike or something. I was trying to come up with the look for an ammo dispenser for my own model while I took a little break from UV mapping.

    As for the criticisms, by the octagonal sections I assume he means the main body of the armory. And yes, you are spending polygons the wrong way. The control panels are pretty minor details in relation to the rest of the model and you've probably put at least 60% of your poly count on the panels alone. You want to spread out your poly expenditure so the details on the model look even. Although going by your topic, you're going to go for insane amounts of details on every single part of the model. Which I don't get really. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

    those buttons don't need all that detail, it's a waste

    other than those gj

    they mean the buttons themselves, they're a waste of polies since you haven't added other detail yet.

    it's looking nice though i'd like to see it when you finish

    Arm things... Check
    Adv thingehs... Check

    You're missing the indented faces on the top part of the armory body. The parts between the control panels are indented into the body. It's not flat.

    i would skin the buttons onto a rectangular brush or something, b/c even though its a hi·poly model, those are a serious waste. also, perhaps you could consider adding a very thin rectangle over the face of the monitor that you could skin with an additive texture to give it a bit of a glow...i dunno. either way, it looks great.

    A touch screen would probably be better

    it's not a matter of adding things but a matter of making them detailed

    the only thing i have added in my mind is the screen bit and the buttons..
    The core was always there just not modelled. The little bit on the top was never model, niether were the vents....
    I just felt like some Poeitc Liscense on the model <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Anyone want to Skin mesh it?
    I mean i have nothing more to put on it :/
  • SnappyCrunchSnappyCrunch Join Date: 2004-08-03 Member: 30328Members, Constellation
    I'll skin mesh it, <i>if</i> you get someone to agree to skin it afterwards. I can't skin it, and I don't want to go to the hassle of meshing it if no one is gonna skin it.
  • DemiguiseDemiguise Marks Servers Reg Join Date: 2004-01-19 Member: 25462Members
    Well my brother says YES
    he will skin it when he is back (Next week)

    Let me just get the model ready and ill give you it

    :/ i still have all my models for it, no 3ds max 7 as i was (yet again) PLANNING to format my hdds but didnt. Ill reinstall it later and either start again (because i can always do better the second time round) or ill fix my current version.

    Thanks for saying you love it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> i kind of felt that it was overshadowed by the HP Retower that came out and i have a knack for just leaving things open and then not doing anything about them.

    If you have a place for me to stick the models then ill gladly give you the .3ds files for the meshers.

    .3ds file!

    Ill bump if i need to <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I'm still interested in meshing this, but now my life is a little more busy, and I may not be able to get to it for a while. So if somebody else feels up to the challenge, be my guest.
