My mum once installed AOL on my little sister's computer when our normal internet was down for a while. She didn't have any other discs and my little sis really needed to go online for her work.
I got a call later on when mum tried to uninstall AOL. It completely farked up the computer's internet settings as a "going away" present.
Best of luck, es. When I got rid of AOL in 2000, it took me two disc swipes to come clean off it. No idea how its remnants managed to survive the first...
Actually did you know that AOL does provide broadband ADSL as well?
Well I do know about US but in the UK they do and they are pretty competitive. But even with high speed net, they still require you to login through their "special" program to access the service.

You do realize that cleansing one's computer completely of AOL is close to impossible?
I have AOL stuff on my computer. It just seems to install itself on everything.
Oh, my mother's computer has both AOL and CompuServe (bought out by AOL, sadly) and the other day, AOL felt that it was important for her computer to has AOL access at all time. So it installed AOL taskbar, which was close to impossible to remove. I don't see why she has AOL, we have a real ISP, as well...
GD mother, not used to Firefox. I think it scares her.

Do you note that it is in almost every discounter's PC configuration? Like sponsored or something.. don't know how they managed to get that much money for that.
AOL is realy everywhere. As long as there is no local ISP that gives the manufacturer more money to pre-install their software. *just remembers something*
I had once T(elecom)-Online (German ISP) AND AOL pre installed - that was crazy.
oh, and, welcome back, esu =)
ps- please look at shoutcast.com - since when does AOL have the rights on mp3? I thought, such a big thing is not patentable? [flaming rant about american courts suppressed]
AOL is $23.90/month in the US, right? I think the only reason people use it are for the free trial periods (like esuna did) or because they got internet before there were any other companies, and they are afraid to change. The prices might be competitive in other countries though, I don't know.
