Tech Support

Because Blizzard sucks
My computer and many others's, reboot themselves while playing WoW.

Blizzard refuses to acknowlegde this as a problem caused by their software, even though this happens in no other games, and started after a patch. Didn't happen at all before X-Mas.

So, I have been monitoring my CPU Temp. I have an Athlon XP 2000+ (1666mhz teh lucky number)

It is generally about 60 degrees celcius. During gametime in WoW, I have not seen it go above 63C, then it rebooted at 62C just a few minutes ago. (Using MBM5 and the monitor in my BIOS after a reboot)

I have a desk fan blowing in the case on the area of the CPU/Video Card/Northbridge and I'm nearly certain that It's not hardware on my end that is causing the reboot.

I ran Memtest86 and My RAM checked out, I have all the latest drivers (Video/Sound/Mobo)

So, Other than replacing parts and what not, do you have any ideas to help? Blizzars should call it's tech support tech uh... not support.

Anyway, help me, I'm close to making Blizzard HQ asplode...

Nope, try again. Updated mobo drivers, included with said mobo drivers are sound drivers.

    Integrated sound.

I have run the game with the -nosound switch. I have turned off sound in config.wtƒ

    Thanks though.

    :edit:

seriously, why is that censored? double you tee eff is a file extention used by Blizzard

    Try playing on a Mac.

WoW is just broken. There's no way to get it not to crash. It's buggy software.

Also, 60C seems a bit high. You should add another fan. Or, you can open up your case and point a desk fan at your mobo, which works just as well, although it's less purty.

Ok, this is probably not what's going on with your computer, seeing that it only happens to WoW.

But I had been experiencing some weird glitches when I play PC games for about 10-15 minutes. The screen looks like a static on TV, then it just shut down.

Most veteran can probably tell already what's the stupid problem. My homemade rig (my first) just grilled its power supply. I looked inside and the wires and stuffs inside actually melt. Replaced the 400 Watt with a brand new 450 Watt just in case and actually turns if off once in awhile now.

I've never had this, but try something, try disabling window's option to automatically reboot upon catostrophic errors and see what happens.

No, I was not. This is frequent, it happens at the login screen some times, others In the middle of an instance dungeon, other times a few minutes into the game. Pretty random as to when it decides to do it.

On a fun note I had the same problem. It only happened with WoW. Even playing HL2 day non-stop never crashed it yet WoW would.
For some reason taking the casing off fixed it... why? Dunno.

The other weird thing was that I'd been playing WoW for at least a month without any trouble before it started happening... go figure :/

If you are getting reboot problems when playing games it very might well be your power supply not being able to give your mainboard and other components the constant, steady power they need. Use your Motherboard monitoring program check to see what your voltages are, if they are dipping when you play games, the power supply may be the culprit.

With your CPU running at max, your graphics card running at max, your memory running at max and your hard disks running constantly that is a lot of power to ask for.

If that was the reason, wouldn't Doom3 and HL2 cause the same problems? Read before you post, people.

Well, I set MBM5 up to log everything it sees, here is that log.

3:23:13 PM was the last one before the most recent crash, I see nothing that would make it crash...

I don't know anything about the voltages though. I have tryed removing both my optical drives.

At first I thought it was the PSU too, but I did that, and then later took an old PSU and ran that into my HD's and ran them on that and the mobo had it's own 250W PSU (Weaksauce, I know, but without much plugged into it, plenty of power.)

Notice the CPU temp, it's about 59° C idle, and maxes out at 62...

Don't feel bad... mine ran at over 80'C (No joke).

    How I fixed it?

I opened up the case and found a 1-inch layer of Dust/Hair. Wow.

Now my computer is a happy 30'C

It can run HL2 and Doom3 and UT2k4.

Not everyone can afford the latest and greatest Radeon x800XT PE or Nvidia 6600 GT you know...

My video card serves me just fine.

This happens to people with high end cards too.

And I run WoW at full settings 1280x1024
