powerstrip is a totally sick overclocking utility, just don't blow your card up. but yeah i'm getting 100 fps. and i only turned the overclock on like a few mhz so it is still in the green.

Anyway, I recently upgraded my os from win2k to winxp pro. I did a complete format of the hd, (saved all my files on a friends) then re-installed everything from scratch.
Anyway, the net result is my fps went from a crap but playable 20-30 in heavy combat to 3-7 in similar situations.
My relavant systems specs are as follows:
dual p3 800's (thats right - 2 of em) 512mb ram radeon 9000 128mb video card (dx 8, and it sucks, I know)
The only real difference that I can come up with is that I am running xp as opposed to 2k - I have the most recent catalyst drivers installed, firewall and other xp crap turned off (behind a router) - and it still laggs really bad (unplayable).
Any suggestions? <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> Look for older drivers, ones that were around the time of half life, since more than likely they'll be optimized for half-life and will run better, I think.

Unsupported refresh rates are hidden for a reason. Don't use them.
Anyways, here's an overview of my Laggy Lag Box of Lagginess (With 50% More Lag):
P3 800MHz GeForce 2 MX400 (64Mb RAM) 448Mb of Average Joe RAM That Doesn't Do A Whole Lot (yes, 448Mb - don't ask)
This nets me 50-60 FPS in the Ready Room, as well as incredibly inactive parts of the map during incredibly inactive moments, dropping to the 30-40 range when I go anywhere near enemies, where it will stay for most of the game, and taking a dive to the ungodly 10-25 FPS range in heavy combats. Grenade/Bile Bomb spam makes it hit the floor.
This is unacceptable.
I can't improve the hardware, so any line of discussion that involves money is out. Overclocking is something I'd rather not do, but will if thusly forced. And gl_picmip not only fails to improve my FPS, but also makes the text virtually unreadable, so that isn't an option, either. I'm already using many of the tweak values - together, they're mildly effective, but the influence of the individual is negligible, so although adding some more might help, I wouldn't bet on it. And I mean to test this priority boosting method, but with my donkey-ball-sucking CPU I doubt it'll help much.
Ok, so you guys must have some serious bottlenecks in your system.
I just put a voodoo 4 4500 in, and get ~75fps constant.

i get 100fps constant, 125 for -dev mode. If vsync is on, it will only push out 60+ fps. If you don't mind tearing, vsync off is the way to go to get that extra fps boost.
