    Ok...

    The grip:

    The grip is to pointy. I don't know if you have ever held one of these guns before or not, but the Glocks are nice and smooth, grip wise. Make the indentions less prominant, and I think you will have it down.

    Trigger guard:

    I think it is too think, imo. Thin it down a bit.

    Trigger space.

    Its tilted. Make it straight. Whenever I would draw this gun, I always started with a rectangle and a parallelagram. The gun is based on geometric shapes. Be sure you realize it.

    Its a good start. Keep it up!

    Here...use this reference pic...

    <a href='http://gunfactory.ch/faustfw/images/glock19_right.jpg' target='_blank'>r3f3r4n(3 p1( - updated: correct pic (Glock 19)</a>

    See how the grips are smoother, yet not prominante? You have something that would cut my hand. It is better than what it was, but you still need to have more of a shallow curve than the point it seems to have, if you want to be technical.

    Now, on the handle, the corners need to be rounded, not square. If you notice on <a href='http://www.aubreyturner.org/armory/pics/glock_left.jpg' target='_blank'>this pic</a> (not the same model, don't worry about the missing grips), the handle seems to "flow."

    And in my opinion, it needs to be longer, unless you want the "baby Glock" look (the Glock 26).

    (Whats my handgun brand of choice, everybody? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> <a href='http://www.glock.com/g18.htm' target='_blank'>Best Glock. Ever.</a> If only I could have the 32 rnd mag in TS)

    [EDIT]
    Doh...the 19c doesn't have the grip...thats what it was...hold on, I'll find a reference pic...
    [/EDIT]

    i can show you how to fix the smoothing groups, but first post a flatshaded, i want to see if there are any flipped normals, which it looks as if there are at least a few.

    also it looks very nice so far

    whoa man did you MODEL those little tiny lumps on the grip!? are each of those a little wee box? if this is for a game you REEEEEALY dont need that especialy since either its a W_ or p_ model which you would never get cose enough to to see. OR it would be a V_ model in which case you will never even see the front of the grip except maybe in some wierd idle animations for a few seconds.

    otherwhise its great Glocks are super fun to model.

    It's for a HL2 mod, which can handle PC's of like 4-5k easily. The model is around 2k,, maybe 2500 when i finish modelling the clip aswell. With arms it'll be around 3-4k. With deleted backfaces its back to about 2-3k.
    It's perfectly low enough on the PC ladder to warrant attention to detail.

    Warrant attention to detail yes, but warrent attention to unnessasary detail no.

    i can always do a version where its just skinned on, but imo it just looks .... ugh. I've seen it done before and I don't like seeing stuff like that skinned on.

    poly counts on hl2 weapons are only 1-2 thousand. Details are normal mapped on.

    And the rest of the gun is too low detailed to warrent having the small grooves modelled on, especially since they'll be hidden by the hands.

    edit: and your sig is too big, size limit is 400 x 75
  • TheritesTherites Join Date: 2004-09-08 Member: 31525Members
    yeah just becuase it can handle that many polygons doesnt mean you should make details that wont even be SEEN on the gun and if each of those is truely a box that prolly added at least 500 polygons at LEAST. so even though can doesnt always mean you should. you could get rid of those and spend the detail eslwhere even or just leave it off and have a nice and fast moving model.

    you should straighten the lines and kinda neaten up the whole model

    using a left/right reference pic usually isnt enough to model, you need the front and back, with the slide back, with the magazine out, etc... to judge the thickness of the gun and the proportions to be more precise

    but good try <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    If this is for a HL2 mod why not make a uber high-poly model with grip bumps and all and use it to generate a normal map for a lower poly model.

    because milkshape is hard to make normal maps with. if he had max it'd be simple

    I have max 6, I just never learned to use it. milkshape always seemed much simpler.
