<div class="IPBDescription">and confused. And dizzy.</div> Wow, there are a lot of servers. I get a little scared, just looking at all of them. What should I do?

Pick a smaller server (maybe 12 players max) and jump in with both feet. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

When you are selecting a server take a look at the map name; If the map name is something like ns_(name) then thats an NS server with longer games, commanders, resources, etc... If you join a server playing a map named co_(name) that is a Combat Only map and it plays a much different version of Natural Selection - one with combat only (who knew?) <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> You should really learn the weapons, the different skills, how to use aliens etc in Combat Only and then transfer that combat knowledge to the real NS game in which combat is a very useful skill to have but it is not the main skill/objective of the game.

Also keep the player counts on the servers you join to around the low teens (10-18) for the best experiences, imo.

NS can be kind of daunting at first, it being a ridiculously cool game with numerous awesome features so the best way to learn it is simply through time and by getting used to all the different things going on. Patience really is important, remember.

    Hi there,

What you can do is to start your own server from your own computer and put cheats on to practice.

You do this by typing 'sv_cheats 1' in the console, so you can play all by yourself. You can switch between rines and aliens in the same game and learn all the things a commander can do, as you can learn how the alien abilities are.

With cheats on you can give yourself ress by pressing F9
As an alien you can build the hives by pressing F10.

    <u><b>Read the <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/view?action=manual' target='_blank'>manual</a> before you ask more questions.</b></u>

Read the forums and use the <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=Search&f=17' target='_blank'>SEARCH FUNCTION</a> to get more info.

I'm sure you will love this mod. Personally I prefer ns_ games over the co_games as I think the feel is more immersive.

    Have fun,
    Greetz,

1: Pick a server that has some players in it. And has a map called "ns_****'. And with low ping.
2: Pick marine. They have guns. You will be used to shooting things. Shoot the aliens, but remember they bite and CLIMB WALLS.
3: If you think you're ready to handle the game by yourself, pick aliens. They can climb walls, build stuff by themselves, cloak and eat people.
4: Anyone calls you a noob, ignore them. They will die later and get blamed for a 'noob' act.
5: CO isn't a proper game. Use it to practice your NS combat skills. Treat CO maps like a proper game and you'll be laughed at.
6: After playing for a while and have mastered the marine or alien techniques, join a clan. Then you'll have to play seriously, but it adds a little bit of 'competitive spirit' to the game. Keep in mind NS clan games usually involve turns on both alien and marine sides. Try to learn both well.
7: Enjoy the game. If you're not enjoying it,try another HL mod or go back to CS.
    8: Suite-Pee doesn't take the game seriously. Remember that,thanks.

    And always <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo--> TO VICTORY!

    1. Pick a map that starts with co_. You can learn all the guns/abilities/upgrades/lifeforms without having to worry about screwing your team over. I wouldn't pick a server that lets you go over lvl10. You'll get too many bad habits with tons of custom plugins and you won't learn the core game very well.
    2. Read the manual (http://manual.nsguides.org/).
    3. Practice. Even an experienced FPS player will be overwhelmed by the alien team at first. High speed melee combat is quite unique in an FPS. Everyone starts out crappy.
    4. Switch to ns_ maps. These have lots of strategy. Listen to your team, do what they say. Make sure you read the manual. If you don't, you'll be utterly lost in the beginning.
