Overheating

<div class="IPBDescription">73'C... is that a good thing?</div> I have an ASUS Motherboard... with an 'AI Booster' Utility that measures the heat of my CPU... it hovers somewhere between 30-80'C.. mostly goes up to around 80 when I'm playing games. (But it has a different heat measurerer called 'System' and it stays at 33'c).

And nothing is overclocked... I used to have my computer *CONSTANTLY* overclocked from 2.8ghz - 3.2ghz for 8 months... now I can't get past 2.9ghz.

....Is something wrong with my computer...?

Thanks,
-Sid <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Woah your CPU goes between 30c and 80c? Thats quite a jump! What kind of CPU do you have?

    I'd definately say something is wrong if your cpu is at 80c, even if you have an AMD. Maybe you should try applying some thermal paste or look at buying some new fans. Not even my 6800GT gets up to 80c <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Download MotherBoard Monitor. That helped me a great deal.
    Leave it sitting in your systray and when you hit a certain temperature
    it'll start beeping at you. (Incase you're in a game or whatever.)

    Lots of handy tools in that program

    I found the problem.

    I opened up my case... and there was a THICK layer (I'm talking.. around 1 inch) of dust/hair/dog hair and other misc stuff.

    So I gave it a good blow job and now my computer is cooled from 80'C to a steady 30'C. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I was wondering why HL2 was lagging so much... wow... my games play SO smoothly now... it's amazing! ..Wow.. just wow... this computer feels like a new machine!

    And to think it has been like this for so many months..

    Edit: Thanks for all your help!

    Odd, everything I've ever seen on the internet indicates that a good blow job actually raises temperatures! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I had the same exact problem.

    Once a month, clean out your PC case and you should be fine. If you have some extra money, more case fans or a better heatsink <--- what I need (heatsink)
