Thursday, February 17 2005

At approximately 4:00 pm PST we'll be releasing an update that primarily focuses on Half-Life 2: Deathmatch. This update will include the addition of the Stunstick, SLAM, and the Crowbar. It will also include a new original map made by Valve, called Steamlab.

Along with the update to the game, we'll be releasing the source code for Half-Life 2: Deathmatch in an update to the Source SDK, which should give our MOD community a wide range of functionality they can use to build their games. We're all excited to see what is built based off of it. The update to the SDK will also allow MOD developers to write their own custom shaders, which will lead to some unique visuals in their games.

Looking ahead to next week, we're still on track for the Counter-Strike update, which will include a new map called cs_compound, along with a number of smaller changes and bug fixes.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    I was never one for Deathmatch but I think I have to give it a second go now that they have the Stunstick. I don't know what SLAM is, but it sure sounds cool.

    3) the stunstick has a nice electrical effect after you swing (takes about 4-5 swings to the head to kill some one)

    the stunkstick is the exact same as the crowbar as much as i can see same damage same rate of attack

    when your on the rebel team you have the crowbar but when your on the combine team you have the stun stick

    i found out the trip mine is also used as a detpack when you are not near a wall leftclicking tosses the mine then you can rightclick to detonate the mine

    /edit after some more investigation i found that the crowbar hits faster but does less damage

    Was just playing...talk about hot deathmatch sex action. The crowbar feels silly. as it did all of Half Life 2, but the stun stick is a ton of fun to smash on people's faces. Since you can sprint, melee actually has some real potential.

    The tripmine has some nice uses...a sneaky way to use it is to set it on a wall, and have the beam land on a box, or a barrel. Move the barrel, and it goes KABOOM.     i personaly think i can do a much better trip mine model and a much better stunstick model the only problem is they would never be used because they would never get skinned

    I dislike how the entire patch is just old content. Steamlab is a redo of an old HLDM map (Datacore I think) The crowbar is well, the crowbar. The Stunstick is a flashy crowbar and the SLAM is just two old weapons combined into one. Oh noes.

    I really dislike how they said Steamlab is "a new original map" when it shares the same damn layout as a map they made for HLDM.

    Agreed. I want some new DM'ing and proper content updates, but it's still damned fun. A combine was popping out from a pile of boxes and opening fire getting my teammates, so I tossed a detpack up and set it off.     I went and, using only the crowbar, managed to get to the top of the scoreboard on lockdown. It's incredible how quickly people drop from it. I didn't do nearly as well with the stunstick, as you have to actually time your attacks a bit.     and dragonmech the stunstick is combine only and the crowbar is rebels only you start with it depending on what player model your using
