    yeah... to do it though you'd have to make sure you give it to people who actually own HL2. Otherwise valve will sue you for all you're worth. What's more, conversions take a while. It's much easier to just make something based upon the basic idea such as the deepeyes or the CP...

    I don't think valve would be nazi enough to sue someone for making a free model that looks similar to their model. That'd be like the makers of Starship troopers suing valve for the antlion model.

    o almost forgot, on nsarmslab they got a medipack from hl2, i dont see any bitching going on over that, so whats different with this?

    It's been done for CS:S. It's for the Terrorists, and it works fine without consistancy errors or the whole thing about the computers crashing due to ragdols. Maybe you can somehow use it?

    Sounds good to me, but keep in mind that the main reason the Combine soldiers were so awesome was because of their great animations and sounds.

    good point, well if someone converts the model il arrange the sounds for a pack.

    Yeah, but Counter-Strike: <b>Source</b> is still on the Source Engine, not the HL1 engine. Has anyone converted the model for regular Counter-Strike?

    theirs a combine model for snow wars mod you could probably convert that but i think you would need their permission first

    If you mean <a href='http://snowwar.hlgaming.com/shots/combine_hlgaming.jpg' target='_blank'>this</a> combine model from Snow Wars, then yeah, somebody could convert it. I'm not sure if they created theirs from scratch or cut down the original, but there are major differences between theirs and the one in HL2, and personally, I think theirs is fugly in comparison. Of course, the poly count is, I'm sure, much lower.

    i've got the DOOM 3 marine ported, but he's on a standard HL skeleton and it's something like 4500 polies, though most of them are spent detailing his boots and arms. i never bothered giving him NS marine animations because my pc wouldnt really care for 10+ 4500 poly marines running around in one setting, unfortunately...

    Yes, it <i>can</i> be done. The medpack was easy, though; it doesn't have any animations. Converting the combine turret was also pretty easy, 'cause the animations are simple, and the turret was pretty much already the correct shape.

    Converting a player model is a order of magnitude harder, especially when the default position isn't the same. We're currently having the same problem trying to get Brig's Marine model animated. The default NS player reference has the marine's arms straight out to the sides, with the legs straight down and knees slightly bent. Brig's marine has the arms pointed down at 30 or 45 degrees, with the legs straight but at 30 degree angles or so. The reference position for the Combine player model is more similar to Brig's marine than NS's marine, and as such, it's a challenge to get the vertexs assigned to the bones in such a way that it doesn't look really weird when it's moving.

    So in short - sure, it can be done, but it's not something that can be whipped out in half an hour. It takes a good bit of time, and is tedious to boot. Most of the people here are unlikely to do it as a favor, though they might do it if they are interested themselves. But, it doesn't look like anyone is, 'cause no one has expressed much interest in it.
