Custom Map Servers

<div class="IPBDescription">Where are they?</div> If you are running a NS server, or planning to install one, please read this:

There are a lot of custom maps out there, and even more in progress. It takes many months of dedicated work to create a playable map, and online playtesting is elemental.
We would appreciate a server exclusively for cutom maps. A mappack and a feedback forum should be provided. Playtesting unfinishhed maps could be scheduled regularly.

    the reason some of the smaller servers dont have the good custom maps (like ns_source or ns_moria) on their servers is because most of them include 15-30 megs of custom textures, sprites, models, ect. and most people dont want to spend 30 mins waiting for it to download.

    i recently shut my ns server down partly because i didnt get that many people on it, and ns has changed alot from what it used to be. i preferred the 3 or 4 hour long matches rather than the short 10 - 30 minute matches that usually happen now.

    the big and beefy ns servers usually have these custom maps (g4b2s, whendarknessfalls, nsarmslab, and a few others) because they have fast download servers that make it to where you only have to wait about 1-5 minutes instead of 30.

    advice to custom mappers:

    dont include mass amounts of custom data into your map, if you have an extra wad file or two, include it into the bsp so clients dont download needless extra useless textures. also dont have massive amounts of mp3s or wavs for music in it, it kills dialup players and the "music" isnt really music, its 5 seconds of the same song over and over again which gets old fast.
