No Competition

Us Guys Keeping up with Movie Hunks
I just got in from a date with my girlfriend (haha, yea, I have a life...surprisingly). We came back from watching the worlds greatest chic flick so far...Wedding Day.

Heres the plot line, for those of you lucky guys who haven't seen it.

Main character's half-sister is getting married. The fiancee's best man is the main character's ex-boyfriend of 7 years. In order to make her ex jealous, she hires an escort (found through her friend, who wrote an article on the guy in a magazine). The goto the London (where the wedding is to be), and twists and turns happen, just like any chic flick. Cheesy lines from hot stud here and there, conflict, reunion, wedding, the end.

Now, I do not like how Hollywood these days creates "Super-Studs" in these chic flicks. All they do is put us regular joe shmoes in the doghouse. We can't compete with them! Here is this super hot stud on the big screen, saying the cheesiest lines ("I would rather argue with you then make love to every other woman." No joke, that was an actual line), and have an entire audience of females awing at the screen. If I was to say that to my girl, I would get either a close look at her palm, or her telling me that I was her "number one fan" (slapped or flicked off).

Shoot, the best cheesy line I have ever used was one exploiting my name (I'm Simon, if you have never picked that up from my website, simon.evilsquid.net). I told her tonite "Simon Says give me some sugar, baby." She looked at me and cracked up laughing. Had it had been Super-Stud giggalo that said that on the big screen, the audience would have been awing at that.

So, what should us guys do, then? Storm Hollywood? Grr...chic flicks have to be some governmental form of population/birth control.

Yeah, because Hollywood always portrays WOMEN as the average people they are...

I'd make out with you if you did the Simon SAys thing to me. That's undeniably awesome, and any woman who doesn't immediatley mount you for that is frigid.

I have a solution for you!
Daze off whilst watching the chick flick. You can't despise what you don't see!

Well, at least you have testament, Simon.

On a more serious note, this is the same thing that has been happening to women since the advent of theatre, as Mantrid noted. So I guess universally it is fair. Though it does disturb me somewhat.

Heck, we're videogames. WE are the ones who keep getting accused of not being able to tell the difference between reality and fiction, and then going on a shooting spree because "Counter-Strike told me to kill my teachers." And we get indignant, because most of us are smarter than that. Let's put the same trust in our peers that we expect from them, and ASSUME that they can tell the difference between the artificial reality of a hollywood flick and real life.

I don't see any big cause for worry. Those that require me to measure up to the artificial standards set by Bloom, Pitt, Depp & Co. are not the ones I would want a relationship with anyway.

umm... well, here's the thing, i'm not a superstud. But at the same time i can probably challenge one to a duel over a woman and win.

    hmmmm... the 'simon says' line... guess it depends how you say it. Mind you, even if you did it in a deep sensual voice I think I'd still be grinning ^^;

Wait so Manhunt isn't teaching me how to creep around in dark alleys and put plastic bags over peoples heads? It was really just a form of entertainment to be taken lightly and considered strictly as a videogame?

Counter-Strike once told me to kill all my teachers, family, and friends. I told it that it can go screw itself, I don't listen to aimbotting AWP ****.

I for one get all my lines from movies. My personal favorite pickup line has come from a christian film I saw once and it goes like this:

Do you believe in the hereafter?
    Yes.
Then you must know what I'm here after.

Meh that's all the movies show. Want something much more realistic? Look out your window, there's bound to be people off dating or something =\

Anyone notice how the average guys always star as the people who get picked on? Yeah, thought so =\

The ability to make people laugh is generally a good one to have. As long as you don't do it involuntarily.

Movies use that sort of klischeeing all the time, calm the hell down. If you don't like it, take her to indy flicks next time - several advantages in one : You look smart, they either enjoy it or can't say no, after all its SOPHISTICATED (IN ALLCAPS OMG!) and you actually get to watch a good movie most of the time.

Just avoid dogma films like the plague. Scientific Evidence™ says that they kill braincells dead.
