Catalyst In Co?

How is it triggered?
Saw a guy in pub co triggering catalyst before he went into battle. It seemed like he was pistoling and moving his mouse in a strange pattern. I can't guarantee that he was doing all that stuff to trigger the catalyst but he did it about half the time. For me, catalyst always ends up triggering after I finish a battle. How, exactly, does the game decide to drop a pack on you in CO?

When you first get the upgrade, you get a pack, and then anytime you kill something you get a pack. I think what you were watching was the guy blowing through pistol ammo, and then resupply dropped another clip on him.

Also, sometimes when you get killed just after you've killed an alien, you spawn in with one...or at least thats happened to me once or twice

The catalysts spawns on you in intervals. Those intervals seem to be pretty far apart. That's one of the reason that the upgrade is so useless, because it's first when you've already used up the clip that you get the catpack.

everytime you make a kill, you get a catpack. Basicly once you get catpacks, you need to go on a killing frenzy

I count catpacks of more an ANTI-Scroungers pill... Any if you kill a fade or any alien and you use some ammo you need to run or kill anything that comes next. Catalysts give you this chance making you able to woosh past and nail anything that comes. Great against hordes of evergoing skulks like in combat. Great for knife

    lol...

Cat packs drop once you've killed something unlike what cookman is saying.,..

If you die straight after you've killed something apon respawn you will recieve that cat pack. And thats about all it is to them. usual towards the start of CO but not against late CO when theres fades/onos and they are kinda hard to garuntee a kill from if they know what they are doing.

I've seen a guy doing some crazy moves with catpacks. Is it possible to flatland bhop on cattys in b5?
  • ShzarShzar Join Date: 2003-09-21 Member: 21098Members, Constellation
I don't think it's possible even with cappacks activated, but some server side mods can make it possible (Cybernetics, anyone?).

No, it was a straight co server. He was doing it really consistantly, and moving unbeleviably fast. It was a little scary.

I always though not; until I did a quick test... Both in ns and co mode you can bhop as a marine if you are on catalyst and If you carry little weight (get rid of pistol ammo; dont carry heavyguns; dont load up LMG ammo)... Still the catalyst effect dont last too much (4secs if Im not wrong); He cant bhop forever he has to kill something...

Well that really sucks. I hope that we see some changes in the way cat packs are dropped in CO. Cat packs are wasted way too often and the effectiveness is too limited. Maybe something like a damage trigger: 50 damage within a catpack interval and it fires.

It is still possible to bhop as a rine in the game without a cat pack. It is just extremly hard to do. There was a video of someone bhoping across viaduct hive on nothing.

Yes, it is possible if you're not carrying too much weaponry and ammo. Too much weight will slow you and prevent you from achieving the speed needed to bunnyhop on a flat surface.

According to my experimenting, you need just over 260 base speed to consistently bunnyhop on a flat surface. It can be done with 260, but you will be stopped every 3 jumps or so. This means that your base speed without catalysts should be over 208 (catalyst adds 25% to speed).

Level 8 Cybernetics (ROFL) and Catpacks + Bhopping + Shotgun = ONE DEAD HIVE. Only works on extralevel Co maps but boy, is it ever fun. I outrun Blinking Cele Fades, Charging Cele Onos.. I can outrun Cele skulks by backpeddling!

But yeah. Every kill = catpack in Co.

The answer is : Yes you can with an LMG. Your loadout has to be light enough, or you can't do it on absolutely flat land - however, you can do it on really miniscule inclines and not to mention your first jump is absolutely huge anyway, and if you just wait a split second between taking off again you're back to doing the same thing.

Yea, Its nice getting a speed boost because some guy is bunny hopping around with his eyes closed.

Hand Grenades could also work well if you're lucky during a Hive rush. Chuck one in, get a kill off some AFK skulk, then go to town.

Unfortunately hand grenades are worthless in Co.

    the code really is:

    ^ ^ v v < > < > L2 R2 select start.

    Gradius forever btcxhz

also flatland marine bhop catpack mines seems like two too many upgrades than normal. Maybe if I gave up HMG and welder.

Went and tested. 206 is LMG/LA base with default loadout. Empty one pistol clip and you can do it with any gun drawn (210 base), otherwise you can only do it with your knife out (while carrying both other guns - again 210) So yes its fully possible in co_, but not if you have resupply and are carrying around too much ammo.

Small footnote, at 208 (which is what you get with resupply and 100 bullets in your pack), it wouldn't work and slow down post-jump like normal.
