This method works for modifications, and I imagine it would work for Half-Life 2 as well.
1. Open the .gcf file. 2. Find the sound file wanted. Write down the name of the sound file and the directory structure in which the sound file is located. 3. Make a new soundfile. Name it with the same name as the original soundfile. 4. Replicate the directory structure of the .gcf file into the main folder for Half-Life 2.
