I don't see what this map proves...there are still more registered voters, over all, who voted for Bush, but I don't need to explain any of this to anyone here.
I think this is the best map there:

Not only does it show you exactly which areas your most likely to find democrats/republicans...but it also makes a handy "where to attack" guide for China. Sorry...I forgot were all idiots and no one well get that joke because were too dumb to figure out that the major urban centers with the larger populations voted strongly democratic…
Anyway the point is that the purple party definitely needs to field a candidate in 2008.

Yea those rural mid western farm towns are infamous for their high murder rates.
Unlike people friendly New York or Philadelphia.
Tell me again why we don't have a rolling eyes smiley?

Yeah, they are all outta targets in the midwest. So now some red voters are moving to better hunting grounds
I don't understand what your saying the biggest stronghold for democratic voters, Washington DC, has more murders then anywhere else in the country, and rightfully earned the nickname "murder capital".
http://www.safestreetsdc.com/subpages/murdercap.html
Now if you would kindly remove your foot from your mouth we can continue this discussion reasonably.
I apologize, though.

I understand that doing it by city helps you nail blue states here, but let's just go ahead and do it by state, just for fun:
Link
(This is as of 2003)
Our top ten are:
Louisiana
Maryland
Mississippi
Nevada
Arizona
Georgia
South Carolina
Illiinois
California
Tennessee
It's also kind of funny that a 'stronghold for Democratic voters' doesn't have, you know, anyone in Congress (who can vote) or the Senate to vote for.
But that's neither here nor there. I just wanted to point out that our blue cities don't quite balance out the murder rates of our red states.
That is all. Going to watch the Super Bowl. Marge, send the kids to your sisters', I'm comin' home drunk!
Notice that it's the murder rate per 100,000 people that it lists.
Tell me that big cities don't contain more people than rural areas, please. I want to trounce all over that.
Feel free to trounce all over it, but it'll just show that you don't know what a 'rate' is.
Now to contradict the above, I fully suspect that if you were to look at which counties in those states have the most murders which contribute to the overall you would find they are those states major urban centers. Even the South has its democratic voters.
I can't find proof positive yet, but I'll be sure to post it when I do.
You sir are very close to removing Mr. Shaw from my sig, he may be rolling in his grave.
Quoted for truth. I am almost sure that a vast majority of violent crimes are committed by people without very strong or reasoned-out political views/associations. And I wonder about you BM: why not list all violent crimes? Maybe the increase in the murder rates is due to the decrease in fatality from aggravated assault or attempted homicide or whatever because large cities have better medical response/ICU facilities. Posting murder rates does absolutely nothing for your argument; it's like saying "OMG Europe has high unemployment rates they must be stupid dumb***es over there in Europe WTHLOLBBQ"
Try this instead.
It's pretty clearl that your site tries to use facts to paint a rosy picture for its "no-death penalty" agenda. However, I find it interesting that it didn't list the District of Columbia which averages a whopping 44 attempted/murders per 100,000 people. Kind of weird, ain't it?
but allso , if this map is a thing to say that " kerry should have won" then it doesn't help at all... kerry resigned, and democrats don't give in easily , he lost by a land slide

You wonder about me? I was just replying to Reasa's throwaway comment (and link) that our 'Democratic strongholds' are responsible for our high murder rates (and he himself was replying to a previous comment on midwest murder rates).
You seem to let him slide, though. He didn't take any of those other factors into account-- let me double check-- nope, he was focused on 'murder rates', too. You pretend to be appalled when I do it-- why chide me and not him? Hmmmm . . . I wonder about you.
I thought the maps were interesting because they really give you a good feel for how much higher population densities are in most of the blue counties.
It looks like you guys need something to debate, so try this. Public services are more effective in areas with higher population densities. Garbage trucks don't have to drive as far, public transportation not only makes sense, but is essential, and a lot of other community initiatives have the potential for real returns because there is a critical mass of people to benefit from them. If we distill democrats and republicans down to the traditional big-government/ small-government debate, could it be simply people's first hand experience of the effectiveness of public services that informs people's decisions?
And therefore he tagged on the 'Democratic' bit because he didn't want it to imply anything?
But yeah, this argument is asinine, and it was launched on a silly, unsupported post and hasn't really improved since then. I'm out.
