The Minimap

Is there a guide out there that goes over how to properly/productively use the minimap?

It is one of the greatest tools a marine or alien has when he/she isnt in the middle of a fight. Then the usefullness of this tool is ten fold when motion tracking is researched. It gives you the ability to see what the commander can see and having info on what is going on elsewhere on the map without actually being there is a great advantage. Also cuts down on voice chatter.

The ability to get to an outpost/PG before an alien has been able to start attacking it is priceless. To wait for the commander to say "PG at hive is under attack" then add in your reaction time to get there......the PG is halfway gone.

Thanks,
Emanon

    Resource Tower, 15 res.

    Phasetech and phasegate 30 res.

Getting to an RT before a skulk arrives... Priceless.

sorry couldn't resist after you said.

Anyway I haven't seen much around but have you check Frontiermen Stradgey forums? There might be something there I overlooked.

The minimap IMO is still the best thing the devs have added to the game in a long time. I forget what build the minimap showed up in, but that was the last time I was really impressed with the game's progress.

I ought to write a toggle script for the minimap, I hold the button down so often anyway. Ever since the devs put the minimap in, playing NS has been a breeze. You should always know where to go and what needs doing. The only improvements to the minimap I could suggest is real-time updating of enemy positions within teammates LOS, so battles across the map don't look like slideshows that you only know are over when you see a kill notification. Also maybe making the map slightly opaque or giving the local map in the right upper corner the ability to zoom in and out like DoD and such.

AFAIK there is no strat to using the map except to use it often.

something that really adds to the minimap is the transparent minimap with names

really really helpfull, not to mention it has the vents in red, go search the customization forums.

The thing I love about the map is that if it is a dark room you can watch the map and see where the skulks are hiding. Also works for teammates.

    Okay..so it's cheap..but its built-in lol.

TAK is right. Labelled minimaps are infinitely useful; I have them, and playing on maps that I don't play often on is a breeze. Of course, when you get a custom map that's not labelled, it feels so weird!
I don't have transparency on minimaps, but that's OK. I think it's easier to see the map that way.
Also, pay attention to buildings. If you see a turret go down, or a res node, or a phase gate, notify the comm and prepare to go over there and rebuild it. Often, comms don't notice some buildings going down.
ALWAYS look at the res nodes. If your team doesn't have too many res nodes, make sure the situation is the same with the other team. You cannot allow them to have more than a few res nodes; otherwise, you are losing. Keep assaulting their nodes, and take them down.
