    Obviously a lack of forethought in this thread.

    Think about most of the games that have had long lifespans, and you'll almost invariably notice atleast one of two traits:

    User customization, or continuing updates.

    Half Life is a fine example of this. We wouldn't have NS as it is today if Valve didn't have the foresight to make the game customizable. Likewise, the NS team would do well (and has) to support user-customization of their game (whether they like the changes or not).

    To claim you're "insulting" the dev team for modifying the game just shows an unfortunate degree of ignorance.

    It's that type of customization and fun that makes a game relevant four years down the road. It's why democracy works! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Actually, we could have long discussions about democracy in creative process (I think I made our point on that clear a while back in a post in I&S), it's more of the open-source train of thought: If you are patient and can spare the time, you <i>might</i> listen to the person who says "You should do X.". Listen. But you'll always at the very least have respect for the person who says "I'm working on X right now, wanna try it out?".

    Back to the topic (wich was <b>"how to ?"</b> <u>not</u> <b>"do you think it's alright to ?"</b>) :

    There is a mod called extralevels with custom upgrades for Co and that allows drop of OCs, TF and turrets.

    Tho it is fun at first time, TFs + Ts are a complete waste of level :
    - a TF + 4 Ts = 5 lvl = armor 2 + SG + ressuply respawning forvever
    - When the TF is destroyed, you can kiss goobye to all this levels you spend
    - the rines tend to defend the static position (weld it etc. ...) and forget objective (killing hive)

    OCs are a bit more efficient
    - around hive since they got regenerated by it
    - they can be dropped anywhere independantly

Now, I've done some minor coding in small, helped develop some radical plugins, and cranked out some radical stuff but THIS one crossed the line, and I posted my offense at it.

    i agree, there is so much you can mod combat so that it reamans combat. But to include structures in combat is beyond combat and it becomes NS.

    I tried a server with that plugin, the oc factor actually wasnt too bad for aliens, but the fact that Marines can build a TF, 1 turret AND elect that tf.... things didnt work out to well

    I played on one of these servers and loved it when the enemy team built stuff, because I just killed it and they wasted a level.

    I have turretfactories on co_de_dust and co_de_simpsons as these 2 maps were terribly biased towards aliens ... but I hard-coded them in (got enough damn plugins running, and I wanted my placement exact).

    You get the xp back if your structure get killed.

    While i have to admit that building TF's and Sentries is pretty useless but placing OC's in the hive is quite effective against jetpacker if you have at least 6 OC's.

    I installed that plugin to bring new live into Combat game play because everybody has tested every possible upgrade combination and it's got pretty boring.

    Even as it's not that useful the players can mess around with it and test out different things even if they "abuse" it to cover the CC with TF's. Also the extrelevels2-plugin extends the game play on my server.

    You don't have to like it but there are many out there like it to play that way. At least my CO-only server is very good visited with a high count of regulars.
