Anyone Still Play Eve Online?

There was a thread about this a year or so ago, but I'd rather not bump that.
I just finally decided to break down and play an MMORPG, after resisting for a long time. And since I love all things sci-fi and space-related, I decided to try EVE online. I'm enjoying it pretty well so far after playing for a few days. It's obviously not for twitch gamers who like constant action, but for people who like slow RPG skill building and lots of very sexy visuals, it's quite good. I like the fact that I can just turn away and do something else for a few minutes without it mattering at all. Also I love that I can build skills while I'm not even online. Makes the work day a little less painful to know that by the time I get home I'll have trained the skill needed to fit that new missile launcher on my ship.
So is anyone still playing this, or has everyone given up and gone on to other things?

The inaugoration of the first xetic president was the other day about 300 ships turned out for the ceremony, was a lot less laggy than i would have expected <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Some details of it can be found on my corps webby <a href='http://www.iownallyourbase.com/exceed/index.php' target='_blank'>here</a>.

Never heard of the game, is it a space RPG?

Played the Beta early on, and in Retail only a few weeks. The main thing that bothered me about EvE was the bookmark system - sure its nice if you're just a casual user, but the utter inability to mass copy/trade/paste bookmarks, or to at least make warping options closer to reality really started **** me off.
But thats probably because I was mostly into PvP, and in the instances when you avoid warpscrambling you really, really want to be able to land at that Stargate at D-0 not 15000 - unless somehow you have a boner for laserbeams, stasishugs and missiles. So it turns out the main thing determining wether you were a good combatant was the time you spent copying bookmarks by hand or making your own. After a while its just pure, utter tedium - so meh.
I was never a great fan of the endless rows of laggy menus either, or for that matter the "Just wait" skill system. But I endured for the sake of yet another secksay space opera. But the bookmarks were just too much <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
If you for some reason really enjoy space and flightsim mixes, give JumpGate a whirl by the way. Sure, its way, way, way past its prime - but mostly just visually. But for those that haven't spent 3 years with it yet, it features one of the sweetest space combat systems known to man - a simplistic yet fun model with newtonian inertia and a hint of drag, its primarily tactical instead of twitchy. Fights are decided by who manuevers, evades, intersects, docks and dodges missiles more deftly - aiming plays a large role as well, but it too is mostly determined by an understanding of the ships handling instead of a quick hand.
Err, anyway. Yeah, as if anyone couldn't smell from a mile away that I was going to mention JumpGate <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
As I have mentioned, I have not played the game, and thus cannot verify whether what this guy says about the game is all right, or whether he just never really got the concept of the game, but nevertheless, I think you should read. Heck, it's a good read all by itself. Longish though.
But SW:G is good, and in my opinion, the main thing people have against it is that it's not really true Star Wars, just a copy. More fun over a longer period than Eve though, as all you do in Eve is trade, mine or fight, and the only difference between fighting and mining is you click different weapons, and trading is just... setting a course, sticking it on auto, and sitting back.
Im not sure we can trust you <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
You would buy anything that has somethign to do with Star Wars.
There was just not enough content.
Oh yeah, another thing, it's very dependant on other people. What friends you can hang out with, what corp you find, can make or break the game.
That's why I prefer WoW, you can still have fun and do stuff even if your friends are not around.
But EVE is still a good game nonetheless, the pvp-side of it would wipe the floor with WoW's.
And they've released a whole crap load of content latly for EVE. Seems cool, although I'm not touching it. There is so much to read up just to enjoy it its too much of a hassle at the moment. Its the in depth sci-fi roleplayer's dream MMORPG.
And by the way, someone mentioned free trial time. They've got it set up odd, you can't just get a free trial, but someone already in the game can send you a two week free trial. So if anyone does want one just PM me, it seems I get an unlimited number to send out.

Hey, <i>I</i> didn't like it but the thousands of other people playing seemed to enjoy it.
