Equal Oppportunities

<div class="IPBDescription">Policies and their indiscrepencies</div> So, We're all aware that within every civil and private organisation it is the LAW to have an equal opportunities policy (at least in the UK). BUT what I would like to know is if any of the loopholes could or are causing serious problems.
Specifically if any of the gender rights or sexual orientation sections of the policies can be used to either the disadvantage of an individual, OR at the demise of a union of a select group (Example is the Black Police Association).
One such problem I've been made aware of is the right to worship any religious icon. Given that any individual is permitted to worship as and what they please, it is allowed to worship the difinitive version of destruction (Devil worshipers, Doomsday etc). This in turn can be seen as treason against the Church of England, Her Majesty the Queen, and in the fact, the Ministry of Defence.

If you know of any others, please feel free to mention them.

Over here, the main discrepancy would be "all men are created equal" and the existance of the KKK.

In America, theres a defense known as "black rage" in which a defendant can claim that he was simply angry.

Not to mention with the stupid invention of the hate crime. Murder is murder regardless of intent or what that person said during the killing.

Say what you will about Condoleezza Rice, but I wanted to point out an apparent discrepancy in American culture.

Not to long ago, Lawrence Summers of Harvard made a statement to the effect that women (in general) do not pursue the sciences as much as men. He hypothesized that this was for 2 main reasons. The first was that they (usually) pursue motherly duties as opposed to career. The second was that perhaps their brains wern't wired for those studies.

Now, he was not saying that women are dumber or in any way less than men - he was trying to find legitimate reasons for why far more men graduate from Harvard with science degrees than women do. For this the press has made him recant at least 4 times - offering public apologies for proffering such an absurd theory and setting back the womens movement.

Lets make a comparison now to Condoleezza Rice - who is the 1st black woman ever to hold a position as high as Secretary of State. This should be a momentous occasion for the womens movement, as well as the Black - equal rights movement.

On the contrary - we have the Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez making slanderous, degrading sexualy orrientated remarks about Condoleezza - airing them on Venezuelan public television. We have Esteemed Democrate Robert C. Byrd opposing the apointment of Condoleezza - never mind that Bryd was a former KKK member.

So here is the comparison. Most of you have probably heard about poor Lawrence Summers. How many of you know what is happening to our Secretary of State?

It is scientiffically proven that men and women in fact DO think differently, and that these differences are due to differently developed brains. That does not mean that female brains are less developed than male brains, but that they indeed DO function differently.
For example, women are more capable of multitasking, means they can perform several different actions at the same time (typing while phoning etc...) while men are more capable at judging distances and proportions. (hence the "women can't park" prejudice. )
