Consistency Blocking

needs a change
well, i usually play on a consistency 0 server, anyway.

I downloaded a custom blood pack that makes aliens blood red, and it gets blocked by consistency :<

surely this isnt in anyway an advantage, just wondering if the blood sprites could be unlocked.

Also, the hive warning sound eg 'LIFE FORMS UNDER ATTACK' I copied over those with a silent wav, cus tbh nothing more annoying then sneaking up to a marine and hearing 'LIFE FORM UNDER ATTACK' and lose track of him :<

maybe get the hive warning sounds off consistency aswell?

I had same problem with gorge spit. Instead of the old one i had a 3d one which i liked, surely it aint a advantage with it or?

So i agree open those which cant be exploited/used as advantage.

So, you modified a game file to give yourself an advantage, in this case being able to track a marine more easily. Ok fine its not as bad as modifying muzzleflash sprites etc, but your still changing files which arnt meant to be changed.

Or has someone said modifying game files is ok now?

    Jez.

    Right, and why not
"Oh and this muzzleflash thing is very annoying when I shoot, so I suggest you remove them from consistency as well, because I find it easier with blank muzzleflashes."
    while you're at it ?

or have a keybound to stopsound which is what alot of people do to get rid of those annoying sounds.

EDIT: or tbh have a key bound to stopsound to stop all anwanted noises, ambient noise, lift noise etc etc, now if you ask me this is a huge advantage and absolutely nothing can be done about it.

So how is my suggestion in anyway worse?

I'm with G on this one.

Only the following should be blocked:

    v_lvl1.mdl
    muzzleflash1.spr
    muzzleflash2.spr
    muzzleflash3.spr

Ehrm, most ambient sounds cant be stopped by stopsound. Try it in central access tunnels on ns_tanith for example.

So it's alright for you to play with a skulk model that has bright red arrows pointing to it - making it impossible for a skulk to ambush you?

Easy... block all of the things that can be exploited (muzzle flash, bite model(s), player models)...

Consistency checking has come a long way, and I think the current implementation is pretty good. Most of the nonsensical files have been weeded out by now, and everything that should be checked, is. I mean, I had an ambient sound pack installed for a while that changed a majority of the ambient wav noises in the game, and I was able to play on consistency servers with it installed, no problem. Custom crosshairs are allowed also. But models are checked, to avoid spiked or high contrast models, and weapon models are checked to avoid invisible teeth and so on. I think it works pretty well currently.

Wait, you mean it's possible to delete or replace the ambient sound files without getting kicked for consistency?

    Woot.
