Now, you're <i>sure</i> you didnt hit any pedestrians? I know thats going to be a major problem for me in my driving test..

"I said <b>dont</b> go after the people on the sidewalk! What the HELL is wrong with you?!"

    "B.. but they're just <i>there!</i>"

It's not too hard...I got a 98% on my driving test because I didn't slow down while going through an intersection, doh.

My sister got 98%, but coming up to one block away from the testing centre (she was that close to finishing), this guy runs across the road just in front of her, and (suprise!) she braked.

APPARENTLY this is the wrong thing to do, as it could cause the person behind to crash into her.

    When she complained that
    a) it is always the responsibility of the person behind to keep a safe stopping distance, so that should she have to stop, he can too; and
    b) was he seriously suggesting that she should have run the guy over;

he just said to her "them's the breaks". Hyuk! D'ya get it? Huh? D'ya?

So she complained to the RTA itself, and they said that they can't overrule him, because they weren't in the car.

So. 98% and an instant fail.

That. Is. ****. I'd love to have a time machine and make it so she doesnt break in one instance, and does in another, and she'll fail both ways. Shes doomed to take it twice. ^^

Or its just a setup where the driving school hires someone to rush out in front of your car because they dont like you. Either or.

Pfft I had to do my test 3 times. And I only just passed the third.

So as you can guess, I don't drive much.

I passed my test on the first try. Slid a crown vic right into the parallel parking spot, cruised around town, and pulled in for a perfect drive. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Took me 2 tries to get it.
The first time I failed becuase I didn't look enough.
Even though I got 100% on the technical, even though it was only like the 3rd
    time I'd ever ||parked.
Second time I <i>just</i> passed. I was so intent on making sure I was watching
everywhere (b/c of the first time) that I messed up on the back-up parking bit.
I don't know about anyone else, but my test was held inside a semi-closed circuit,
used only for the purposes of driver-testing, but there were 10 or so people testing
at the same time. So it only took like 10 minutes to take the test.

Hint: Try not to take the test in a Dodge Caravan, they suck at back-up parking.
They also just suck in general, unless you have to haul 9 people somewhere.

And take the test in an automatic if you can, but then switch to stick once you got
    your liscense.

Whoa, that makes the UK driving test look like a MENSA exercise O.o

The test is easy, but once you get on to the roads, its a nightmare.
They just put in a roundabout near my house and it would be funny watching
people try to figure it out if they weren't holding you up at the same time.
We also have way too many people that drive too slow. The city must be up to
someting because all the roads that you could safely drive at 45mph are 30mph zones.
I just fix that by going at least 5mph faster than the speed limit at almost all times.

Funny thing about parallel parking. I was having difficulty getting the hang of it, but I found that the best way is to do it by the book. Not because of a sense of adherance to the rules, but because following the instructions in the book made it practically infallible. They were that good <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->.

In general, the trick is to have an awareness of what's going on around you, and a feel for your car (ie knowing where the edges are, how tightly you can turn, etc). The wing mirrors are incredibly helpful for that. What I mean is that it's not just a case of "when you're driving, you're supposed to look here and here and here before you do this" - it's a case of "when you're driving, you're supposed to know where you are on the road and what else is on the road around you".

Pfft not that easy for us Brits. We get thrown onto the road with a guy that must have hardly any sanity (I mean they're driving instructors their job must contain a buttload of danger!) And then we have to take a 45 minute test on the roads with the general public who have almost nill idea what they're doing at the best of times. Now throw in overzelous testers who WILL fail you for mistakes (Like staying too close behind a milkfloat, don't laugh its happened) and then the general unpredictability of the UK roads. Hurrah, recipe for disaster right there. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

In Egypt, you only have to drive around some cones to pass your test. (My sister lived out there for a while.)
