<div class="IPBDescription">I still don't know how 2 do it :@!</div> Hy guys

I am good @ ns... only 1 thing remains... the bunnyhopping as skulk... its crucial in this game to have a good bhopskill, or you are a dummy against the rines!

In <a href='http://www.nslearn.org/' target='_blank'>nslearn.org</a> you have the guide for beta 4, but not for beta 5. I cant play the demo <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Can sum1 tell me how 2 bunnyhop in beta 5? Because I'm getting owned as skulk! Or a link to and beta 5 bhop demo? Thx!

If you already know how to bunnyhop, the vital thing is holding the duck key down while in skulk so the wallwalk code does not slow you down when you hit the ground. If you do not know how to bunnyhop, I am sure someone around here has the link to the TFC bunnyhopping guide. Basically it involves using HL's aircontrol to move faster by strafing into turns. If I confused you forget what I said, someone else can say it better I imagine.
    *edit*
Also I rarely actually bunnyhop, I do everything but hold the duck key down because bunnyhopping is not a <i>crucial</i> skill, but it is a valuble one. I usually make sure to use the wallwalking of a skulk to my advantage. However, when leaping on maps like daimos, you can use the air control to insane speeds going around corners.

the best way to learn is to pick a map with long corridors and do what nslearn.org says:

Just so you know, the nslearn guys have a map called ns_bhop that is just long straight corridors for you to practice bunnyhopping on.

One thing I recently read about bhopping that helped me a lot is this: the tighter you make your arcs in the air, the faster you accelerate. However, if you make too tight a turn, you loose speed. It's best to practice untill you hit that 'perfectly tight' curve.

I suggest you first try to get the hang at bhop in another mod, and then start using it in NS. <a href="http://www.planethalflife.com/agmod/" target="_blank">Adrenaline Gamer</a> is in my opinion a good mod for bhop (no speed cap C: ). Load up a map with a wide open space (like doublecross for example). First, practice your jump timing. Start jumping straight forward, and release your forward key, and keep jumping. If you time it right, you should continue jumping without losing speed.

Once you got that done, start making circles. First, choose one direction. Start jumping and release forward, and then press the strafe key of the direction you want to go, and move your mouse in that direction too. You should now be increasing your speed, moving in big circles.

Afterwards, you'll have to change directions. Do the same as above, but instead of circles, try making a "8"-shaped movement. Then you can practice changing direction at each jump/twice between jumps.

To bhop in NS, it is probably easier to begin to do it with the gorge. When bhopping as skulk, don't forget to crouch to avoid sticking to the floor.

It may not be very to get it right at the start, but don't give up, keep practicing, and you'll be should be able to do it easily (:.

    <u>Edit:</u>

    Here is a demo of a bhopping skulk : <a href="http://www.lol.com/bhopexample1.rar" target="_blank">Demo</a>

You'll need this map to view the demo. You can use it to practice too : <a href="http://www.lol.com/ns_bhtrain.rar" target="_blank">ns_bhtrain</a>

This demo is just an example, it's a little bit slow and could be done better, but I hope you'll see how it works (:.

First i'd suggest browsing for a triple jump script on the forums around here and learn how to bhop with it. Then, once you get the hang of it, try to do it without scripts (which takes a lot of timing, but easy once you get it down).

To bhop...read the guides. The very first thing you should do is bind a jump function to mwheeldown.

Basically, you want to hold crouch down and use only your strafe keys. If you hear yourself sort of sticking to the ground, then you're not doing it correctly. To start off, press your left strafe key, look left, and jump. Just before you land, spam the mwheel, then press your right strafe key and look right. It takes a lot of practice to able to pull this off without scripts, but with scripts, you don't need to time your jumps.

mouse wheel is a lot better than a 3 jump script imho, its faster and doesn't get blocked by bs 1.

if you have a mouse with a wheel type this in your console:
    bind mwheelup +jump
    bind mwheeldown +jump

this binds jump to both scrolling up and down

there are nice videos that show precisely how to do it. I'd recommend following:

    NS Jumped - <a href='http://ww.own-age.com/vids/video.aspx?id=2846' target='_blank'>http://ww.own-age.com/vids/video.aspx?id=2846</a>

    kimo's jump movie - <a href='http://www.kreedz.com/media.html' target='_blank'>http://www.kreedz.com/media.html</a>
(yeah its CS 1.6, but this stuff is crazy, no frags <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> it also shows bjumps from different angles)

    HL done quick - <a href='http://www.planetquake.com/sda/other/halflife.html' target='_blank'>http://www.planetquake.com/sda/other/halflife.html</a>
(original hl bunnyjumped all the way in 45 minutes, great tricks... and u can watch original .dem files in Steam HL instead of dloading huge .avi)

    how I did it:

find a map with a hallway of decent size.
    go gorge
    practise

    bunnyhop:

    * jump, jump, jump, jump while moving forward. jump the instant you hit the ground.
    * do the same now moving your mouse either from middle to left, or middle to right. Prefered is moving mouse from left to right. Do this FAST. your mouse must be left or right when you hit the ground and do the jump. (on the jump) get the hang of moving the mouse to move the view left or right on jump.
    * walk a few meters, then do the jump part, now do NOT use forward but strafekeys. If you move the mouse left (jump > left) use the LEFTstrafekey

So practise is FORWARD > JUMP + LEFTMOUSE > JUMP + RIGHTMOUSE > JUMP
For real is FORWARD (optional)> JUMP + STRAFELEFT + LEFTMOUSE > JUMP + STRAFERIGHT + RIGHTMOUSE
  • tjosantjosan Join Date: 2003-05-16 Member: 16374Members, Constellation
Right, DC Darkling made a good point about the gorge.

The gorge is in my opinion the best class in NS to start bhopping with, since the speed increase is easy to spot (feel), and the movement pattern is somewhat like that of a marine (which I think is the class we all know how to control the best).

You could practice bhoping with a marine in the readyroom as well, but the speed increase isnt as pronounced.

So my suggestion: practice as a gorge untill you can gain max speed with it (this only took me a couple of days), then try skulk and keep practicing it. It's for some reason really hard to bhop as a skulk in comparison to a gorge, regardless of holding down duck (which is also something you must remember to do as a skulk when you bunnyhop).

Most important: practice whenever you are in NS, in the ready room, while waiting for res to drop a chamber etc, just DONT GIVE UP.

you can use sv_cheats 1 and cl_showspeed 1 when in a listen server to watch your speed increases.

Do what the post above me says. A good map to practice bunnyhopping is ns_agora, because it has long hallways and big rooms. Another good map is ns_veil.

bunnyhopping is like riding a bike, it's so easy, once you learn it, half the time you just bunnyhop around the map because it's faster and more fun than walking. It's really simple. Hold duck as a skulk. Roll your mouse back and forth. While you're doing this, every time you hit the ground, you have to jump. When you roll your mouse to the right, use the right strafe key. When you swing the mouse left, do it with the left strafe key. Never press forward. Only use strafe. If you're doing it right, you will speed up every time you swing your mouse. Only swing it about 30-45 degrees left to right. That's all bhopping is. Also if you're missing any of the above steps, you're not bhopping. To get the jump timing down, switch mousewheel to +jump in your options menu. Roll the mouse when you are about to touch the ground and you will jump right on time. A good way to time it is to switch from left to right the moment you come in contact with the ground. So you just go left-strafe-while-moving-mouse-left, jump, right-strafe-while-moving-mouse-right, jump, and back and forth like that. NEVER PRESS FORWARD. NEVER MISS A JUMP. ALWAYS HOLD CROUCH FOR SKULK. You should be making a sideways 8 with your mouse, but you don't have to, you can just turn left and right and get the same general bhop. It seems faster if you look toward the ground while you bhop too.

When I bhop, my mouse movement looks more like a sideways (.

ground speed should be around 510 ~ and air speed around 500 ish. The only thing hard is the beginning where you gain all the accelartion and momentum, if you can nail that down everything else is cake.

No, when you are facing right, and you hit the ground you should be slamming your left strafe. Then when you are facing left and you hit the ground slam your right strafe. Its opposite. The strafe always pulls you in the more forward direction.

oh and mouse wheel or 3jump script is essential.

    and hold crouch

pressing forward key will slow you down to the max forward speed. bunnyjumping is all about exceeding this limit. so you should release it as soon as you make the first jump.

God, there is so much bad information floating around.

If you press forward, you are not bunnyhopping. If you aren't moving your mouse in the same direction you are strafing, you are not bunnyhopping. If you are not holding crouch as a skulk, you aren't bhopping. If you aren't leaving the ground the exact moment you touch it, you are not bunnyhopping.
