Fan effect i'm quite happy with

<div class="IPBDescription">Download the bsp</div>Ok here's a room I'm about to scrap and remake because its too big and the r_speeds would be through the room if I finnished it - But it has my almost finnished fan effect in it minus sound and some tweaking. You could have any kind of fan for this effect speed, shape, size or in my example 2 going in oposite directions.
Ok Im sorry the file is so big but I dont have the time to make a custom room and I really want to know if people think it looks good. Its an engine exploit and relys on the engine drawing certain faces in the wrong order but it definatly wont work in software mode - If it doesn't work for you I'd like to know your video setup - mode, card type.
It's relativly simple effect and I think I can explain it too anyone if they ask nicely. Im very suprised Ive never seen it before - maybe there's a reason for this?

p.s. you can walk on the shadow, you'll need to turn clipping off to get inside the cage.

I like. How do you make the fan shadow 'cancel out' the light?

Ill post a short tutorial tomorrow morning - I'm too tired right now, sorry. It involves a fan rendered with colour and an aditive light texture whos center must be contained by the fan - thats about it but Ill most details tomorrow.
    Night all.

It took me a while to find it, but that's a really cool effect.  My only suggestion would be to make the shadow a bit blurrier, if possible.  It just seems a little too sharp to be real as it is now.

exactly what i was thinking, its just a little too sharp to seem real.. but the motion is perfect, and it would be even cooler if the fans moved at diff speeds, but i know thats a lot of work for just one effect.

Very cool effect.  I think it should be a bit blurrier as well, but also bigger.  It seems to be the exact size of the fan above, which seems strange to me.

Ok thanks for the comments guys.

Flayra: the shaddow is actuatly twice the size of the fans over head - but your right it looks like thier the same size, its probably because lights in the HL engine diverge so quickly and it looks wrong in comparison - I'll work on it.
Also have you thought about fixxing the bugs in Fan network code which means they stop for no reason on slow clients?

Greedo386; Trane: I could make it more blurry but id need to double the number of faces, If I make it go round faster it should look blured because of image persistance. I'll probably make the fan more realisticaly shapped too.
