Just saw it today and I must say, it's amazing. Though I made me somewhat depressed at the end, but it felt good. Yeah.. I love this movie. Bye.

Good film indeed. The kind you can watch a few times and each time learn something new.

And yes, the soundtrack is damn impressive.

That film was great. I don't think I understood a fourth of it, but it was great.

You haven't ventured into the absolute lunacy that is the DonnieDarko website yet, I take it.

    HO ho ho!

Donnie Darko is a great movie despite the fact I had to watch it two or three times to grasp the whole concept.

It was a neat movie, by far the most impressive part was the soundtrack.

I haven't seen it yet, though a friend of mine keeps insisting I do, as it's his favorite movie. I'll get to it... someday...

    That is one impressive website!
(If you are talking about this site)

It answers about as many questions as the film does. And leaves you with just as many new questoins as the film does, lol.

I got totally obssessed with trying to understand the underlying concepts of the film. I've come to accept that while on one level it makes sense, on another level it doesn't, and on an even higher level it probably makes sense again . Also, yeah the ending is pretty depressing. I would have prefered that Donnie lived but thats the way these things are sometimes.

I got totally sucked in by the website before watching the movie. Both captivated my attention entirely. The movie is definatley one of the best movies i've seen, and gets better with each time you watch it, and the website is just plain fun to decipher.

Great movie, but I still don't understand it. I'll probably have to watch it again... when the "hand" that came out of him did the "come here curls," I kinda thought it was stupid.

It was the future. His timeline. He could see where it would take him next, thus being able to see in time.

Donnie on some level is also Jesus. If you think about all the things he did in the movie and apply the ending to the metaphor it makes the movie much easier to understand.

Oh yah, I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad, the dreams in which I'm dieing are the best I've ever had.

The main character in almost every movie or book ever made can be jesus on some level if you look at it in one way or another...
  • NuketheplaceNuketheplace Join Date: 2002-09-02 Member: 1266Members
I don't know if people want the movie spoiled or not, so I'll just post a SPOLIER WARNING

While almost every character can be see as Jesus in some way or another Donnie is really a good metaphor for him. Its been a while since I've seen the movie, but I remember he burned down that guy's house exposing a kiddy porn ring. Also he was indirectly responsible for that girl's death. However, at the end of the movie he decides to die and let those people live their lives in peace. If thats not a metaphor for Jesus dieing at the cross I don't know what is.

I don't really see how that fits in as a Jesus metaphor, unless you consider Jesus not only as the human on earth but also God since the begining of time, and assume that God did alot of frustrated medling with history... I kind of see the point about dieing for the greater good though...

    [edit] added spoiler warning...

yeah... that like TOTALLY doesnt fit jesus... that is.. if were talking about the same jesus.. maybe you know some mexican?.. but anyway... jesus wasnt much of a bad person.. he didnt die so he could let other people live without him and therefore live in peace..... well.. thats what the bible has to say about him...

BUT.. i dont have much say in the matter anyway because ive never seen the movie...

Well I know nothing about this movie. Except that he dies in the end, thanks to Olmy...

But I'll go read some reviews and see what I can see then.

If there were any indirect biblical allusions or metaphors, I missed them. I think the film has more to do with fate, altruism, and teenage angst than anything else. And big bunnie wabbits. But mostly fate.

/sorry for bump, but i loved this movie.
  • AndervalAnderval <3 Join Date: 2003-05-05 Member: 16073Members, Constellation
I think Nuketheplace might just be reading things into the film which wern't intended to be there.

Having said that almost everything in life can be interpreted in more than one way so it doesn't matter much.

Oh and it's a really good film, also i dont quite know why some people wanted donnie to live at the end...this would have ruined it for me i think.

the writer/director got only $9k for the movie, and wrote it when he was in his low 20's I believe...
