HELP ME
Level was Dark Energy. Shouldn't have been in the thread title. I'm disliking the fact that I had to read the first line or few of this post just to determine whether I"d need to put the level title in here now that it's not in the thread title.

Just keep smashing the portal (make sure you're hitting the part with Dr. Breen in it). You should see parts of the machine fall off as you're doing it.

I find it really ironic that I can't see the level title in the title of the thread, thus I can't determine weather or not I will be spoiling my game by entering the topic or not having only played half way through the game.

Marik, titling is the way they oranize the levels in this game, its just like any other game where you see "level one-level two" and so on. As soon as you press start game the first thing it does is gives you a list of all the chapters and allows you to select which one you want to play. They are hardly spoilers.

Would you tempsuspend me for posting a thread for starcraft if it was new and I said "Starcraft; Need help on Protoss campain"?

I came back to this thread figuring there may be at least one reaction to the tempsuspension.

Referring to HL1, if someone had told you they were needing help on a level called "Surface Tension," yes, it looks like a plain old scientific term...until you're actually playing the game, at which point you may be only halfway towards that level before you can guess it refers to a fight on the earth's surface. Likewise, knowing that a chapter is called "Dark Matter" may not seem too harmful to me right now, but when I'm actually playing, it may prematurely give away part of the game.

On a sidenote, up until now I was also completely unaware HL2 has a chapter selection system. I won't say the comparison to StarCraft is entirely irrelevant, but I would imagine my comparison to the game's own prequel is equally or more valid than a comparison to an RTS, a genre where the majority of games have playing as more than one species/army/race/whatever as a main advertised feature.

Well there definately is a chapter selection. Granted its a little buggy at the moment (it gets stuck on chapter 8 even after you have compleated past that point) but it is the locating feature of the regions of the game. Trust me, the valve chapter titles are far more vauge and undescript than any persons three second attempt at describing a part of the game would be. They added chapter selection into HL:S too acctually...

I just found it somewhat annoying that I acctually had to come into the thread and read thread content to determin weather or not I could be of any help, expecially since I have only half compleated the game and am intentionally avoiding spoilers because I don't want to know anything about the end, which I have heard from numorous sourses is the best part of the game.

If someone asked me for help on a hypothetical chapter called "Meeting of Minds", I'd tell them I hadn't got that far, and I wouldn't get any spoilers. "Meeting of Minds" could mean anything, as could "Surface Tension" or "Dark Energy". If someone asked me for help on that chapter where, you know, Gordon Freeman has to fight his evil twin brother Ronaldo, then I would be ticked off.

In fact, if anything, editing out the chapter name makes it more likely that a spoiler's going to occur, because we can't tell what chapter he's referring to unless we read the spoiler! Just like you noted in the first post!

Why don't we just end this by agreeing that it would've been a lot easier for all involved to just put the chapter # in the title instead of a name?

    Fair enough.

All I know is that it's after chapter 12, in the vain hopes that someone would read this post before the first. You can't find out the names of the chapters until you get to them in-game (and you have to go to "new game" to find out), and I haven't gotten to the part the thread author's talking about.
