No Console?

EosEos Join Date: 2002-06-08 Member: 738Members
<div class="IPBDescription">Help please!</div> Whenever I try to use the console key (~) nothing happens at all. On my shorycut to the game on my desktop I have -console enabled in the command line but it still doesn't come up.

Any help?

This isn't really a problem but I hate when I get stuck and I have to wait for a Marine or Alien to come find me and kill me.

Thanks in advance.

Go to your config (C:\Sierra\Half-life\ns\config (I think)) and find the "console" command. If there is a 0 there, put a 1 in its place.

Is 1.0 ok? Because that is what it says.

    console "1.000000"
    bind "`" "console 1.0; toggleconsole"
    bind "~" "console 1.0; toggleconsole"

put that in your config.cfg file in your Natural Selection folder. (If you're having trouble, open up that file with notepad and edit there) or

    C:\Sierra\Counter-Strike\cstrike.exe -game ns -console
    C:\Sierra\Half-Life\hl.exe -game ns -conosle

On your desktop there should be a shortcut to the game, right click, go to properties and look in the target text box, and make sure it looks like the one above.

Also a useful thing you can add is -numericping to the end of the target. The numeric ping thing makes you see the latenency of the server in numeric digits as well as those green circles or red ones.

Example: C:\Sierra\Counter-Strike\cstrike.exe -game ns -console -numericping

<b>Sorry for Resurrecting but this is important!</b>

Still when the console command was 1.0 I changed it to 1, but when I go to change it how you said to change it I can't find the config.cfg in my ns folder.

    Any help now?

it should be in ..\Half-Life\ns\ ie: your base directory.

    edited November 2002
    Look in

    C:\Sierra\Counter-Strike\NS
    C:\Sierra\Half-LIfe\NS

It should be in there. If you havent modified anything, it should look like a windows system file and when you double click, a window that says what you want to open it with should pop up. Find in the list, open with Notepad, and edit there.

If you are still having trouble finding it, go to Start, Find, Files or Folders, and search for it. I'll try to post up the file of my config file if I can find some place to upload it.

I still couldn't find it in any folder. So I deleted Natural-Selection and re-downloaded.

And what the heck?!?! The config.cfg was there too!

So I edited everything that you said Evintos and now it works.

    Thanks for the help all!

my counterstrike shortcut target: ["C:\Program Files\Valve\Counter-Strike\cstrike.exe" -console] without brackets
using my cs instead of the natrual selection cause natural selection shortcut isn't allowing me to play.

The desktop shortcut is fubar, but the start menu one works. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> try that one.
