Hey, maybe this idea will never come to fruition, but who knows...

Along with a whole bunch of other sites, I have a link to NS forums on my Bookmarks Toolbar (Firefox). Every single other site on the bar has a happy little colorful customized icon except for NS.org. The icon for NS.org is a sad blank piece of paper. I figured it wouldn't be so hard to fix that, especially if other people provide the "artwork."

For anyone who doesn't know and is curious, the favicon is a tiny icon file, 16x16 pixels with no more than 16 colors that must go in the base folder of the website and be named <i>favicon.ico</i>. So for NS.org it would be located at <a href='http://www.natural-selection.org/favicon.ico' target='_blank'>http://www.natural-selection.org/favicon.ico</a>.

You can create them with the many free and shareware icon editors out there, or there's a custom editor <a href='http://www.favicon.co.uk/' target='_blank'>here.</a> I'll assume you guys can figure out how to use it. I've tried my hand on it but I am apparently no good at this. I may post my crappy examples later.

    Firefox steals the favicons from bookmarks around it on my favorites bar, so off-topic has the gmail flavicon and discussion has the SMH one.

    I have no idea how or why though...

    I know you can do so in IE but I don't believe it's possible in Firefox without extensions. Firefox's bookmarks is relatively crappy, IMO, but I heard it was getting an overhaul soon. Should I have put this in the artwork forum?     It should be the eye or a TSA icon, those are the icons most synonomus with NS.

    I made a little collection of small pictures that you can use as icons. These are all from the media packs or the posters, so there weren't too hard to make. Some of them aren't recognizable (especially the buildings), but I included them just to show what works and what doesn't. If you want to use them, just separate them and use <a href='http://www.irfanview.com/' target='_blank'>Irfanview</a> or something to convert to a .ico file.

    I imagine you could do it in a clumsy fashion by having something running on a timer switch out or rename the icons, but that would be sort of dumb. Doesn't seem like there's an easy way to switch it besides that, unless there's a built in way to do it.

    Now that it's been mentioned, I also think it should be the TSA icon. The background should be dark blue, and the icon itself should be that light sort of sky-blue that's in holographic signs in levels. That way it matches very well with the color scheme of the forums.
