<div class="IPBDescription">Has anyone ever heard of these before?</div> I was reading a tigerdirect magazine at my job last night (it was a slow shift thanks to a snowstorm) and I saw an ad for these: <a href='http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=626935&Tab=1&NoMapp=0' target='_blank'>3-D gaming glasses</a>. Quite frankly I was intruiged, and I'm curious if any of you have seen, used or owned a pair. Christmas <i>is</i> coming up ya know.... XD

It's sort of cool, but the software needs to support it as well.
And 3-D glasses may be old, buy how about <i>gaming</i> 3-D glasses.... XD
Think about it. If it was widely supported, everyone would have them.
I know noone who has a pair of those glasses.
They are <b>teh lose</b>.
I just cross my eyes or put on a pair of blue n reds. It gets the job done.
well... it says all... that must include HL (and mods <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->)
Take Shattered Steel, for example, which is a fairly old game (mech shooter), and it supports 3-D glasses.
Descent supported them too, if I'm not mistaken.
The cyberfuture is now<i>!!!</i> On the Information Superhighway!
I've tried those things in, like.. 96, 97 or something
It really sucked back then and the whole fad died out pretty soon...
But with modern computers, who knows, this this could be the next piece of hardware (like the introduction of the soundcard) you can't do without.. (Doom3 or HL2 in real 3d... *drools* )
you need a fast graphics card, because it have to calculate 2 pics per frame for every eye, and a monitor with a refresh rate of 120 or higher hertz.. because its the "low" refresh rate that makes you dizzy with shutter glasses. you need a monitor that can provide 60 or more hertz for every eye (60x2=120) .. 60 hertz is still ugly ..
Indeed. I have an old looking glass game (has a win95 [3.1?] installer but runs in dos with VESA) called Terra Nova that supports such things. And I'm sure that they've been around longer than that.
Nevermind- it appears that I missed a few posts.

I get a rock solid 99 in NS with my laptop (HL's locked maximum) - 120 should be possible. ^_^
I couldn't do it, even with a cardboard divider <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
descent makes you sick
Great game though. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
ok..it works like that,
the driver can get the depth informations of a direct 3d rendered scene, and corrects the perspective for the left eye to the left..and for the right eye to the right.
now it displays this calculated frame on the display..first for the left eye..then for the right eye.
when it displays the image for the right eye, the glass on the left eye turns black. when the display shows the image for the left eye, the glass on the right side turns black.
and this happens helluva fast. depends on your settings, every eye is getting shut 60 times per second , so the specified image can be seen by the specified eye.
you have also to provide your aproximated distance between your eyes to the driver..so he can correct the distance right..otherwise you get sick

if you look at the screen without glasses, you can just see a strange double image, ecause the perspective change happens that fast.
crosshairs in ego shooters getting useless, it looks like a cross floating in front of you, but you can better guess distances.. very handy for throwing grenades

They (obviously) distorted the color a bit. But more importantly they cut the framerate of all games down to a little less than half the normal, and sprites aren't supported in the same way as things that use regular 3D polygons.
Translation: playing a slideshow with no crosshair. Ouch. Turned out to be horrible for gaming, <i>amazing</i> for the MilkDrop Winamp visualization (which would've supported the glasses even without the $20 I paid for the special drivers).
